Prime Razor Ruddock

I’ve seen that asserted many times — that Ruddock was once a fine boxer with a very good jab and then he fell in love with his power and abandoned that.

It’s just that I’ve never really seen it. Are there fights against credible opponents where the boxer (as opposed to puncher) version of Donovan Ruddock is evident? Can you point me to some of them that are on YouTube of otherwise easily available?

(I’m not doubting it, I just haven’t seen that version of him and would like to check it out.)

 

Even though sparring don't mean much Ruddock's boxing skills are quite evident vs Larry Holmes, where he uses movement and a decent jab.

Had he shown that type of discipline later in his career he could've done better, because he had all physical tools.

I’m pretty sure it’s his fight with Weaver? Where they refer to him as “not a puncher” and a boxer. When he was trained by Patterson.

 

Agreed. The over reliance on “the smash” came after the Dokes fight.

 

Razor Ruddock lost to Tommy "The Duke" Morrison. Whom do you MIGHT respect more for your role in "Rocky 5" but not me. Morrison defeated the "second" Foreman, which is a dream for Razor Ruddock. Morrison also defeated Razor Ruddock. And showed better in the fight against Lewis. A strange world.
P.S. Razor Ruddock, based on some semi-facts, created some kind of "semi-fear factor". Or the media did it for him.

 

Rocky V was the Rocky we don’t tell our kids about.

Rocky Balboa is the most overlooked movie in the franchise. Very sweet and tells a great story.

 

I'm curious myself.

You can tell Ruddock was still developing and was prone to right hands…his “smash” hadn’t quite emerged and was more of a heavy hook, but he did actually mix it in with jabs and did the most damage to Gross with his right.

 

Fight with Weaver is a good place to look also, he was trained by Patterson then they refer to Ruddock as "Not a puncher"

 

I actually liked Rocky 5 and deleted scenes are actually good aswell. Unpopular opinion I didn't like Rocky 4 much I thought it was basically 1 hour 30 min music video.

 

Rocky Balboa is the best of the sequels to me, although 3 and 4 are the most fun to watch, with its multiple montages and Rocky ending The Cold War.
