Maybe I'll wait another 33 years before actually making a decision as to whether or not his loss to Douglas has affected his ATG status.

Douglas had a high ranking at that time , already fought for a world title ( was ahead on points when he got stopped )
also he was really talented ,he wasn,t a journey man !!

 

Agreed, mate. Douglas's worst enemy was himself. He could really lack motivation and be lazy at times.

His fight with Holyfield was a stark contrast effort and dedication wise compared his to fight with Tyson.

I'll be honest and say, the night Douglas beat Tyson, Douglas was a hard man to beat on the night, for anyone.

He fought a great fight.

 

Buster beat Oliver McCall, Trevor Berbick, Greg Page and Tex Cobb. He was well above journeyman level.

 

I don't think Buster Douglas was a journeyman when he had beat Tyson, he was a fringe contender who was riding a 6 fight win streak going into his fight with Tyson. Calling him a Journey man around that time is a bit off imo.

Buster Douglas had been on a red hot streak prior to fighting Tyson, he'd had 6 straight wins since his world title loss to Tony Tucker in which he'd been infront in.

A stand out performance vs Mike Williams, in which he showed one of the greatest jabbing exhibitions ever in Heavyweight division flooring Williams 3 times with a jab.

Douglas then followed up that performance with two very solid wins over known names like Berbick & McCall.

Douglas had got himself in the top 10 and was having the best spell of his career when he fought Tyson, hardly the traits of a journeyman is it ?

Bit of advice stick to Tyson Fury threads.

my friend who is a huge mike tyson fan said this is more embarrassing than his loss to douglas

 

I know his performance last night was horrendous, but we have to remind ourselves that Mike is 58 years old. The man was shot as hell when he faced Lewis in 2002, so of course he was gonna be beyond shot last night against Jake Paul.

 

Douglas had a journeyman’s career and record but most definitely not a journeyman skill set. His jab was superb, he had size, decent power and real talent. A very frustrating career actually. Buster was a nice man without the passion for the sport.
If he had his old man’s mindset to complement his natural size and skills then he'd have been a real force for a lot longer than he was.
