The way I rank p4p fighters are complete different from how historians rank p4p so its kind of complicated

I vote for Ray "Sugar" Robinson, and not to repeat the arguments made by Entaowed, I will add that Ray "Sugar" Robinson has been knocked out ONCE in his 201-fight career. And it's not a knockout, it's a stoppage at 40 degrees Celsius against Joey Maxim, who was 15-16 pounds heavier than him. And at the time of the break, Ray "Sugar" Robinson stood much better on the scorecard (all 3).

 

Sam Langford has a better single win than Robinsons and he got it while he was blind, shot and fat.

Even if that were to be true, he also has countless other losses in his prime and was never champ, and those things count a lot when it comes to who's the greatest.

 

I always come back to sugar ray. It's a combination of career resume and eye test.

I was trying to put what he did in his own era, for those not familiar with it, into context, by drawing parallels with what a similiar achievement would look like in this day and age.

I wasn't speculating on the outcome of fights between Langford and a series of modern day boxers.

 

It depends on the context of those losses and when Langford's prime began and ended. I think 1909-1913 is a fair estimate of Langford's prime, and he only lost twice to McVea and Fireman Jim Flynn. And he avenged both losses numerous times.

I wanted to do a big explanation on my thought process but then I forgot and realized that the due date is tomorrow. So I won't do that. My vote is for Ray Robinson. Again I always switch between those main 5. I've never had a concrete answer but for right now I'd pick Robinson.
