Very few in the history of boxing become cash cows like Floyd or Oscar, even those who are kinda popular w/ a decent following/draw. So, simple answer, NO.

 

He was never gonna be cash cow. The guy barely got by Daniel Ponce De Leon and Paulie Malignaggi and was gonna get beat at some point. Broner was someone who got by because he was a Mayweather knock-off but lacked the skills and dedication to be a cash cow.

 

He got favorable decision against Malignaggi. There's no way prime DLH/Floyd struggle w an on the way out Paulie...

 

He never had the discipline.

 

Cash cow? No. But he was very popular at the time, but he would have never reached the level of Floyd, Oscar or Peak Pac as far as being a cash cow is concerned

 

No because being a good self promoter isn't enough to reach that level you have to be able to back up all the talk in the ring and Broner could never do what Mayweather did and beat the elite guys.

 

A lot of people thought Malignaggi did enough to retain his belt. That should tell you about how far Broner was gonna go. He never had the qualities to be a big star other than being a big mouth dummy.

 

Yes and no, it really depends on your definition of the term.
But for a long time, Broner was the biggest ratings draw on SHO. The only one to do bigger numbers was Wilder.

And the Maidana fight was originally slated for PPV. Last minute budget openings allowed SHO to put it on regular programming.

*If Broner was slightly better, he would have been a star like De La Hoya was. Someone who won big fights and lost big fights, but sold tickets and PPV´s. (Broner would have likely been 1/3 as big of a draw)

 

Canelo struggled as well early in his career. If Broner could have kept winning and beat someone like Pac he could have been but I feel he couldnt co exist with Floyd as the loud mouth villain people wanted to see humbled.

 

Not to their scale, but yes. If he could’ve backed it up, even if he lost his zero, he’d sell more than Spence today. Broner came a few years too early, his natural funniness and charisma would’ve sold well in the social media era if he had the skills to back it up. Personally I’m still rooting for a Broner resurgence, this sport is about entertainment at the end of the day and he brings that in spades.

 

The only reason he got as much attention as he didnwas because of that cringey ass “big bro, little bro” thing him and Mayweather had for a little while. He was a talented fighter, but it was that and all his stupid antics that got him the name.

That reminds me of one of tge words card ever. I thought Broner lost vs Ponce de Leon. Had it like 96-94, it was close though. Then one judge came up with a 99-91 card. Giving Ponce de Leon 1 f'ing round was a disgrace. Definitly up there with some of the worst cards ever.
Also another questionable decision not mentioned yet was va Quintero.

 

Which doesn’t really say much. DeMarco was also destroyed by Edwin Valero prior.
