that would be great.I myself scored the 2nd fight, 14-113 Toney.without the 1 point penalty, it would have been a draw.I thought Mike maide some adjustments to avoid the big right hand and Toney put together his punches better

 

Toney-McCallum 1 is a masterclass. Absolutely beautiful display of technical skills from both guys, with a good amount of action too.

I had it wider than most people, scoring it 8-4 for Toney. I had McCallum ahead in the rematch though, by a point.

 

So i watched the rematch i don't think Toney was as good in the rematch personally.

So i decided to watch their 2nd fight after watching the 1st fight last month, i thought this time around McCallum was unlucky not to get the decision. He went to the body more in this fight and out punched Toney to win a close decision IMO.

In the 1st fight Toney's power punches especially the right hand were alot more apparent, in the 2nd fight not so much and Toney didn't look as good in this fight and wasn't active enough for me overall.

The point deduction was total BS aswell and not needed, and the judges scorecards were horrendous aswell. McCallum outlanded Toney by 100 punches and lost by 117-110 on two scorecards ?

Overall not as good as their first fight, but McCallum made a few adjustments and was slightly better with the jab in this fight and went to the body more. Toney i think overall looked slightly worse in the rematch, and was not as active and his power punches were not as apparent or effective compared to their 1st fight.

 

I thoroughly enjoyed every fight of the trilogy honestly. Lots of skill involved both elite technicians. Masters of making opponents miss by inches just a pleasure to watch for me. Toney/Nunn n Curry/McCallum r special to me too.

 

I've said multiple times on here that I believe this is one of the greatest high skilled chess matches in history. Also one of the fights I constantly refer to when I give an example of boxing at its highest level.

Astounding technical boxing feast, maybe the greatest ever. Huge props for Toney for fighting the often avoided McCallum. It is a shame the idiots at the WBA stripped Mike before the fight as would have been nice for both to keep their belts after the official score of a draw. If this was a 15 rounder I suspect James may have stopped the iron chinned Bodysnatcher but Toney also looked pretty spent after his heroic final round rally. However I had Mike winning simply through greater work rate. Whenever there was a lull in the action he was always popping the jab while Toney was stalking and relying on a single shot. The commentators had Toney winning and I suspect at ringside James' harder punches made more of an impression, but on TV Mike seemed to sneak more rounds.

Keep in mind McCallum was 35 to Toney's 23 which makes his performance even more remarkable, it is possible this and my affection for Mike made me slightly biased! Whichever way you scored it you are witnessing two of the greatest fighters to lace up gloves.

thanks for replying. I generally agree with your assessment of the 2nd fight. But I scored for Toney by a point. Mc Callum threw a lot of arm punches while Toney's punches looked sharper and harder. But scoring is subjective so I respect your card as well

 

I'm actually watching Eddie Chambers and his coach do a breakdown of the fight right now. It's close, and the punch stats are dead even, but I give a slight edge to Toney. He's stronger than McCallum, with heavier hands, and Mike at times is scrambling to stay on pace. Toney's shots have the greater effect - Toney wobbled McCallum more than once - but the old pro pulls out everything from his bag. Technically brilliant as well - 4th dimensional chess. Prime Toney and McCallum would have rolled over any middle-, super-middleweight fighter today.
