That’s not as bad as you’re implying. Most boxers end up with about 60-70% of their purse once they have paid their trainer and promotors and they usually foot the bill for expenses (flights, accommodation, sanctioning fees, etc) which was being covered by the McGuigan’s.

Was actually 400k he got. Frampton admitted that he had a shortlist of 3 new trainers (Adam Booth, Pete Taylor, Salas) and was going to spend a week with each before Jamie Moore was ‘put to him’ and he’d not even considered Moore before then… which basically means Kinahan pushed Frampton towards him.

Most fighters leaving the McGuigan’s do so because Kinahan/MTK offered free management services and then give the fighters to either Ben Davison or Jamie Moore who are both mates of Kinahan. Josh Taylor and Lee McGregor left McGuigan for MTK and joined Davison whilst Frampton and Chantelle Cameron left McGuigan for MTK and joined Moore.

Hard to blame the trainers taking so much nowadays after watching the same thing happen time and time again. Boxers leaving when the decent money comes along.

Seem to put a lot of investment, time and expertise in for someone else to come along and benefit.

Probably only makes it worthwhile getting 40 percent from early on.

Makes sense. Tunde is to Yarde what Manny Steward was to Thomas Hearns. Steward used to get 50% of Hearns money as manager + trainer.

I can't think of an example, off of the top of my head, of fighters that have left McGuigan and gone on to be better/have sustained success

I could just about deal with 30% total deductions, however no more when you are one taking the punishment, not them.

Manny Steward was deemed expensive and I know for a fact that Lennox used to pay him 25% and he was also his chef.

Bloody hell, I don’t like that. No wonder he brokered the deal directly with SRL for the first fight then. Made him $4 million over 40 years ago. Must have been loaded.

He will look back on that and regret it in years to come. A glorified cheerleader.

sorry it's me being silly and also thick (nothing new) - I was making a joke about all the Mcguigan family that were costing expenses to Frampton. I then managed to write the wrong surname. Essentially when Frampton took Mcguigan to court, it transpired in disclosure that Mcguigan had put loads of family expenses onto Frampton's costs, including lingerie bought by Barry's wife etc. It was mental. Shortly after this some 'lost' emails, 1000s of them, were found and had to be disclosed to Frampton's legal team. Mcguigan's team settled the case almost immediately after.

Frampton sued Mcguigans for £6m. I believe he got offered £2m to settle. And did so.

And just to really muddy it all, Frampton was represented by the Finucane firm who made their money defendingg IRA terrorists.

It's a lovely sport all round in Ireland.

so basically Mcguigan is a great trainer but not a great human being. Also some questionable activity re sleeping with friend's partners. And his dad is well dodgy despite being a hero for in-ring activities. And refusing to adhere to sectarianism in the 1980s.

and Frampton's case was well founded. And so was settled. But he was represented by IRA-lovers.

and he promptly left to join the MTK drug bonanza.

2 million quid, nice. I remember the story about the VAT people turning up on his doorstep and accusing his poor wife of fraud etc as she answered the door as he was a director of that company at the time.
