He admitted he walks around at 151-155 and his cage weight is 148. I'm not knocking him for his lack of strength but the fact he is neglecting one of the big 3 lifts. Most boxers do train bench press, although not at their maximum capacity. For context, Gervonta has been recorded training benching 200s. I wouldn't be concerned if he can't bench 200 but 135 is a pretty basic weight for the average gym goer, let alone a pro athlete of his size so it really begs the question why he hasn't been training bench press or muscles related to bench.
i mean 5'9-5'10 is about average in america as far as height goes. He walks around at 150 which is on the skinny side but still well within normal range especially considering he has low body fat. Most people with his proportions can bench a plate within half a year of casual weight training.
I remember Joe Frazier on the Superstar competition and was shocked at how weak he was. Joe could spark anyone out cold but he struggled to get a modest weight over his head. I’m sure Garcia could improve his weight lifting ability if he wanted. He’s an athlete after all. Not sure it’s advisable because more muscle might slow him down and impact his endurance. His weakness on the bench doesn’t surprise me. Someone else mentioned AJ. I’m sure he could lift a lot more than Usyk but it didn't help him in the ring. I bet lots of guys could out lift Fury and get murdered in a fight.
That was fake benching, with butt off the bench and with the 'help' of training partner. But anyway, Shane is 1000 times stronger than Ryan Garcia will ever be
I don't bench more than 50lbs most day, even though I can push 80kg on a good day. Extra mass around Garcia's chest and shoulders would probably slow him down.
My bench isn't amazing TBH I'm 6'1 190 pounds and I bench a bit over 200 pounds. But regarding bodyweight exercises I excell at that. I can do over 100 dips without stopping, I can do 100 pull ups in 2 sets of 50x. Theres different types of strength.
You should be able to bench at least your weight +20 pounds. What does it matter if you are a boxer or a office worker ? This content is protected
To everyone saying “he’s a boxer, he doesn’t need to be a bodybuilder” etc, To be a professional athlete competing at 140 lbs (and walking around even heavier), Ryan barely being able to bench his bodyweight is pathetic. Regardless of if he’s a boxer or not. 140 lbs is barely anything, I don’t think people comprehend how easy it is for a casual gymbro to bench 140 lbs, let alone a professional athlete.
