Pics or it didn't happen. What I do know is that Norton beat Quarry. It's on video.

I expect that Chris will be in on this.
That story has been told for years by people that were there. Even Bill Slayton, who trained Norton at the time they fought, admits that he used it for motivation.
Some people say that it happened twice, once by a right hand and once by a hook to the liver. Quarry was further along in his career than Norton at the time, and everybody gets "knocked out" in sparring, especially by body shots. Anybody that says otherwise is lying.

It would be nice to read source quotes at any rate - unless they’ve already been posted to the forum previously.

It’s true, anything can go down in a gym sparring session - but just as easily, I guess anything can be invented and circulated also.

That’s in general, and I’m not saying the claim of Norton being KO’d isn’t true - I’ve heard and read it a lot but nothing that has supplied direct quotes.

Norton came across as a pretty honest dude - did he ever address or answer the claims?

In their actual fight, while Jerry was past it, there were some moments when Quarry did appear to hurt Ken with some nice hooks to the head and body.

Not to overweight Quarry’s brief successes but reasonable to accept it as a glimpse of what a younger Quarry might’ve maintained and followed up on more successfully.

Interestingly, and it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen, but I don’t recall any particular fight in which Ken’s body was necessarily targeted by his opponent.

Ken certainly had the “dress” ab muscle but that doesn’t necessarily promise resilience. Ali didn’t have the abs and he was thicker in the waist - but boy could he take it to the body. Not as pretty but highly functional.

I believe for every drop of rain that falls, a flower grows.

I believe that somewhere in the darkest night, a candle glows.

I believe for everyone who goes astray, someone will come to show the way.

But Quarry knocking out Norton in sparring? GTFO.

You'd be surprised apparently John Ruiz used to work over Lennox Lewis in sparring, Paul Spadafora schooled Floyd Mayweather in sparring. Glenn McCrory gave Mike Tyson a black eye when he was preparing for Tyrell Biggs and Tyson had to take 2 days off.

I used to favor Norton over Quarry prime for prime but now I think I’d back Quarry.

You can watch Jeremy Williams work over Lennox Lewis in sparring. Happens to the best of them.

    Sparring is sparring, sometimes.

Im not sure whats so hard to believe about it. Norton had a glass jaw and Quarry could punch. Ive got footage of Norton getting bounced off the canvas like a yoyo by Harold Dutra including going down twice off one punch like Berbick against Tyson and at that point Norton had a lot more experience than Dutra who was nothing more than a street fighter.

According to BoxRec, Norton was down 6 times in his first 17 fights. Most of those were local fights and there might have been more knockdowns that were not mentioned in The Ring magazine "results" section which is probably where most of the older info. on BoxRec comes from. BoxRec mentions Norton was down vs. Dutra (how many time was he floored by Dutra?), Jimmy Gilmore, Aaron Eastling, and J.L. Garcia 3 times.

His chin was good enough to take Ali's and Holmes best shots for 15 rounds.
