Tough guy, great chin, lacked a bit of power, involved in some great fights, close fights, big fights. But my opinion of him changed after all the drug doping, should've stayed retired after the Chudinov rematch.
Pretty solid world level Champ. Was impressed with his performance against Delahoya. His jab was great in that fight. He seemed to go back to Germany and i almost never saw him on USA television again. Boxrec kind of fills in the blanks for me. He held the middleweight title 3 times i believe and kind of milked it in Europe, being very popular. Surprisingly he lost a unification to Daniel Geale.
After that robbery, he learned his lesson about fighting over here. Get the KO or get robbed. Since he wasn't a big puncher, he stayed at home afterwards.
Definitely got a lot of robbery decisions in his favor, for all the bellyaching there is about the DLH fight, the judges hooked him up a lot more than robbed him. His look was superior to his skills re: his popularity in Germany. A big reason that European fighters outside of the UK got a bad rap.

In a bygone era he would have been a solid back-end contender. Excellent jab, sharp technically, strong physically, and a solid chin, but not enough power or work rate to hang with top guys.
