Tony Tucker vs Michael Spinks

Hey less of the ‘old’, I’m only 50 and feeling in pretty good shape. Then again, it’s all relative, I remember my old sparring partner Manassa calling me an “old ****” (for questioning his accuracy during one of his Hagler love-ins) and I was only 34 at the time!

But thanks mate, appreciate the kinds words, although I haven’t gone too deep in a debate just yet, I’m still a bit rusty after so long away from watching classic fights. But Tony Tucker being hugely overrated is one thing that never changes.

Ha ha, I meant to say you are one of the chiefs on this board, a poster from a golden age before I arrived as the fool. Age wise we're still in our prime. But man, those injuries are piling up. Nothing that turmeric tea and apple cider vinegar can't handle. (Shoot, now I sound old)

Tucker doesn't have many names on his record. He was a tall, mobile heavyweight that could move (something rare) but fought down to his opposition. So it seemed.

I wonder what could've been had he stayed with Emanuel Steward.

 

Tucker on rather dull points decision.

 

I know mate, I was only playing, but yeah same here, dodgy knee, rotator cuff injuries. Keeping my hand in there with some sparring and running, which is fortified by tea here too.

I agree, he did have the tools- good technical kills, decent jab, very strong chin and the size and strength to be so much better. He just lacked that extra something that makes a great fighter and he seldom impressed me. I always saw him as another Bugner.

 

Aye, I remember when he wouldn't even accept that Hagler could be 'stunned' by a punch . But a good lad he was, really knew his onions.

 

I worked him up a number of times over Hagler. I was a bit of a critic and the slightest bit of negativity was a red flag to a bull. But yes, he sure knew his boxing.

 

Yeah, we were a pretty good tag team back in the day...which reminds me, what are the legendary Rooster's whereabouts?

 

He actually dropped some feathers and reappeared as Mark Dunham quite a while back and was still posting until about 3 months back. I'm not sure why as his rooster ID was still alive and well. I guess he wanted to reel people in again and reel them in he did hahahaha. Even the trolls were better back then someone said recently

He denied it's him but the telltale crows were unmistakable, claws tearing at everything SRL. In both monikers he seems to post for a period of time then disappear for a period of time. I always opine it's when he's on leave from the asylum.

He hasn't lost the knack and certainly livens things up.
