What year was "The Ring Magazine's top 10" TOP? Here's my suggestion...2002: Lennox Lewis, Champion 1. Wladimir Klitschko 2. Chris Byrd 3. David Tua 4. Evander Holyfield 5. John Ruiz 6. Hasim Rahman 7. Vitali Klitschko 8. Kirk Johnson 9. Mike Tyson 10. Jameel McCline You should decide on one year (one list) that you favor. It also doesn't matter if you agree with the list or not, but which 10 (or 11) names are TOP?
Interesting! That’s a solid list. I like 1991: 1)Evander Holyfield 2)Mike Tyson 3)Riddick Bowe 4)Razor Ruddock 5)Ray Mercer 6)George Foreman 7)Tim Witherspoon 8)Tony Tucker 9)Lennox Lewis 10)Michael Moorer
Here’s one I like a lot…no not because it’s the best, no siree. But because it is without doubt one of the craziest. We have two 40 somethings in there. There is no Tyson and no Holyfield for different reasons. A few Brits (but Frank Bruno wasn’t one of them) and big Lionel Butler is in there. It could only be… 1994: 1. George Foreman 2. Ollie McCall 3. Riddick Bowe 4. Michael Moorer 5. Lennox Lewis 6. Herbie Hide 7. Larry Holmes 8. Henry Akinwande 9.Jorge Luis Gonzalez 10. Lionel Butler
This is Ring's 1963 list. Note that Cassius Clay / Muhammad Ali beat eight of the other nine members of the list. Ne never fought Eddie Machen. 1. Sonny Liston 2. Cassius Clay 3. Doug Jones 4. Ernie Terrell 5. Cleveland Williams 6. Zora Folley 7. Eddie Machen 8. Floyd Patterson 9. Karl Mildenberger 10. George Chuvalo
1973 George Foreman, Champion Muhammad Ali Joe Frazier Ken Norton Jerry Quarry Ron Lyle Earnie Shavers Oscar Bonavena Joe Bugner Jimmy Ellis Chuck Wepner
Ali beat all ten of the other members of this list and that is why he is the greatest. It's not just that he could beat all the top guys it's that he actually did it.
This was very nearly my pick too! Went with ‘91 because I felt the bottom three were stronger, but could flip a coin on it. That’s a very tough lineup.
