Hatton vs Bradley, Cotto & especially Marquez would have been interesting, Even in that Pacquiao fight he was hitting him very hard for those two rounds if you look closer.
Hatton was not really a good boxer. He didn't move his head at all. However, he did have talent, especially his footspeed. It's why he gave Mayweather early problems before getting check-hooked into the turnbuckle. As for his resume, he was nearly KTFO by Lascano but the ref gave him time to recover by tying his shoelaces. He had good wins over Tsyzu and Castillo, arguably lost to Collazo. He was lucky to get out of the first round against Pac, and I think that was one of Pac's only KO wins over 140 pounds.
Always wanted to see the Junior Witter fight, when Witter was on a real tear. Didn't buy the "doesn't deserve a payday" crap. Also thought he should have gotten a Lonsdale belt, instead of that godawful WBU strap, but I suppose he was at risk of being beaten, especially on cuts, (see the Thaxton fight). Terrific fighter that abused his body, and shortened what would in reality, be a short prime anyway, but for a short while, he was the finest 140lber on the planet
He was the first unified champion in 30 years at 140 you dullard and is regarded by most decent judges as top 5-10 all-time at that weight. Most have him top 5. He was also no.3 P4P during his career and defended his title 14 times, often in the USA against hostile crowds and hometown judges. But don't let facts and your pathetic ignorance get in the way.
I think his problem was he got fat in between fights and drank too much. If he stayed in shape in between fights, who knows how high he could have gotten. Also, he could have used a bit more defense. But he was a very good fighter.
Lost to Mayweather&the ref ! Hatton was not at his prime weight (140lbs) when he fought Mayweather (147lbs)
I fully agree on his weight gaining in-between fights. Maybe Hatton simply had a lack of focus when he wasn't in actual training camp. His dedication once back in camp was second to non though. Foolishly he had to make it a major weight loss AND a training camp - double the task. Maybe it was also to do with his up-bringing as a youngster, his parents ran a pub and I imagine he'd been brought up on good old fashioned wholesome, but not so healthy food. The northerners do like there grub. Had he lived in the gym generally, I'm sure it would have made some positive difference overall to his career. How could it have not,?. Could he have ever beaten fighters, or at least made a notable difference against the likes of May or Paq as a result of better dedication?. Personally, I suspect not. But I think his career peak could have been extended.
He must have been pretty good. He came unstuck against some serious Pac PEDs as Pac was ready and roided-up for his higher weight run where he magically overpowered all these bigger men, the most ridiculous example of biology being defied until Canelo came along.
Honestly I got nothing against Hatton but I don't think he fancied the Junior Witter fight in all honesty. I think he knew Witter was a tough stylistic match up for him and thought better of it. Hatton was good but was a bit fortunate to beat Castillo, Tszyu, when they were at the tail end of their careers. Which made Hatton appear better than what he actually was. I know Hatton had an undefeated record and was P4P, but I never quite see him at that level as one of the top P4P fighters. Overall though as I said good fighter but I don't think he beats any of the best Welterweights of his era, and at Jr Welterweight when the likes of Crawford came along he don't beat the likes of him either.
Nope, I agree, I think Witter had a style that could lead to cuts, sharp puncher, fast hands, and I always thought Hatton was advised to avoid him. I'm not saying Witter would have won, but he was dangerous, and it could have been a great British grudge match. I think he wasted a lot of his peak on (no doubt financially fruitful) WBU defences against second tier opposition. He was a handful at 140, but his power and physicality didn't relate to 147.
