Fighters who's nicknames didn't suit them

I think Mr. Smith definitely packed a mighty wallop, but didn't live up to his true knockout potential due to the fact that he was slower than an ALS patient on five bars of Xanax.

 

Whaaaa? He may not have been the greatest, but Mike was a helluva body puncher -- very precise, fast and ferocious. A well-deserved nickname, in my opinion.

I'm not saying he's feather fisted, his right hand had very good power when he put everything into it and landed flush. But with a nickname like that, you'd think he was on the level of someone like Shavers or Wilder. I remember when I first started getting into boxing and looked up his fights and was so disappointed. He sucked. The guy was just a caveman with decent power and struck gold with the Witherspoon rematch. If not for that, he would've barely been remembered as nothing more than the Abe Simon/Mac Foster/Chris Arreola of the 80's.

 

How many guys did Bennie stop with body shots? I honestly don’t know, so I’m asking. Because I saw McCallum do it more than once.

Neither do I, for that matter, just that if I was asked by a non boxing person, who is a noted " body puncher" McCallum would not initially spring to mind, maybe because I have so much reverence for Bennie, and he was so exciting , furthermore his raking of Valdez's midsection in their second fight, lives on long in the memory, not denying Mikes prowess in the skill, but the words of Liston still echo when viewing Briscoe in the unpaid ranks " this fighter looks like the last of the great body punchers " nice chatting Saint.

IMO he doesn't have much in common with Mike Tyson, and he especially didn't show us what 1988 Mike Tyson was.

Johnny "The Entertainer" Nelson. It's hard to even think of possible less-suiting nickname.
