Best light heavyweight that Tommy Hearns could beat

What is the best light heavyweight you'd give Hearns a chance against?

Is it Michael Spinks? Dwight Qawi? Eddie Muhammad? James Scott? Harold Johnson?

 

Spinks has too much power and is too big, and Qawi is too relentless he'd do what Barkley did at Light Heavyweight but worse, Scott would also be too relentless just like Barkley.

A fascinating match up would be Conteh vs Hearns the battle of jabs just like Hill vs Hearns was.

 

He beat Virgil Hill - that was a pretty good light-heavyweight to start with.

I’d like to see him against Victor Galindez. Hearns would hold height and reach advantages over him so size wouldn’t be a factor against him. Galindez was also a cagey fighter so it’d be interesting to see how Hearns approached it. Galindez could probably hurt Hearns but he wasn’t a massive puncher so Hearns might be able to hold and recover if he got tagged badly. I’d still favour Galindez but it’s an interesting clash of styles.

 

Call me crazy but Bivol vs Hearns would be interesting, Bivol isn't a big puncher and relies on his jab, defense, and technical skills. The fight would certainly be a high level boxing match and not a brawl which would be in Hearns's favour. I don't think Hearns wins necessarily but anyone who is willing to box with Hearns who isn't a big puncher he has a chance against.

PS Hearns also has 78 inch reach compared to only 72 for Bivol just saying.

 

I came here to say this, Tommy already beat a top 15-20 (IMO) LHW of all time. That's a helluva accomplishment.

 

Well,,,I never thought Virgil Hill was that great of a light heavyweight. He was a good fighter and a fine boxer no doubt but what was his best win? Leslie Stewart? He was durable I think he was stopped only once by Roy Jones.

 

Yeah I feel the same way he was a bit fortunate to come along when Light Heavyweight division was fairly forgettable at that time.

I think he was very good but not great despite his many title defences.

 

He got stopped by Mormeck at CW but was over the hill by that point.

Two 10 fight reigns as a LHW champion is more great than good IMO, and sandwiched in he only lost to Hearns, Roy and Dariusz, 3 great fighters

 

The one I’d love to see is Hearns vs Bob Foster.
Lanky power punchers…could easily go either way in my opinion.

 

Conteh beats Hearns at Lt.Heavy. John too strong and carries too much power at that poundage for Tommy.

 

How could he take Bob Fosters power but was stopped by Hagler at MW

 

Well that sorta proves my point, he lost to the best fighters he faced and frankly, a great light heavyweight ain't losing to a guy who started at welterweight in Hearns. A great light heavyweight blows Hearns away

 

Tommy Loughran if you rate him higher than Virgil Hill

 

You may be being a little hard on Virgil, Hearns is one of the greatest boxer/punchers in history, there's no shame in losing to him. Hearns also lost to the best fighters he fought, but he's still great (one of the greatest IMO). Virgil's losing shouldn't take away from that. His wins and reigns have to count for something. Especially considering he knocked off his main peer and gave him his only loss.

 

Conn or Tunney? I don't think either would knock him out, would be good fights. I think Jean Pascal and Chad Dawson would both be a lot of fun to watch fight Tommy as well.
