Why isn't Caracas Foreman held in the same esteem as Tokyo Douglas and FOTC Frazier?

His career was in one way ascension, his excellent jab and overall elite power already well established.

I know hindsight is wonderful but he was a live dog and, as I understand, Yank Durham wasn’t entirely thrilled at the prospect of Joe facing him. George was only a 3-1 dog I think vs Buster at 42-1 under.

George was no one hit wonder and he also rematched Joe to turn the trick twice. After Tokyo, Buster turned back into a pumpkin.

Edit: Ah Caracas George, not Jamaica George? Misread on my part but much the same sentiments - but I understand you’re taking in terms of appearing unbeatable on the one night.

FOTC Frazier, in the opinion of most, has the most valuable win in the history of the heavyweight division.
Tokyo Douglas is the biggest surprise in heavyweight history.
Caracas Foreman is IMO below Kingston Foreman.

I apologize for the google translate.

Foreman was great that night but that is not why the other two fights are held in such high esteem.

The answer to this is really simple. It's who you beat, not necessarily how you beat them. Beating already Hall-of-Fame worthy, undefeated Ali in an epic match up and beating the seemingly invincible Tyson are momentous compared to Big George bombing out a guy who lost his previous fight and wasn't even close to as good as the guy Foreman blasted out to take the title.

I absolutely give Caracas Foreman his props and esteem, But FOTC was one of those deals that transcended mere boxing/sports, that the world stopped for. The world didn’t stop for Caracas.

Big George shortened his punches and he didn't push. He just manhandled poor Kenny. He never had a chance.

yeah I am gonna go ahead & agree with Caraccas Foreman.
Why? They say fighters get 50% better after they win the title, which is an exxageration, but a little truth in it here...
Since he had more/the experience with Fraizer under his belt, & was great in both cases, I assume he had slightly more formidable.

Also he weighed in heavier-so unless it was just what he was wearing (as I recall reading), that means he was less dehydrated & would have more endurance.

And he went even further south below this hemisphere-I'll think of a rationalization for that helping. :icon_tfno:

Lol. There’s a lot of qualifiers for George already out there, and not just geographical - we also have - Young, Old, Mean, Cuddly, First Career, Comeback..and perhaps even more that I’ve missed.

Perhaps Kenny lost his virginity before the fight like Tyson did before Douglas and we’re not considering that factor.

All kidding aside Norton entered the fight thinking he was going to win. It wasn't like Spinks against Tyson who was gone before the bell even rang. That's what made the annihilation special.
