Just think of Spence as a more skilled Margarito with the loaded gloves. Cotto is toast.

 

Spence hasn't got the chin of Margarito to walkthrough punches, Spence has been visibly shaken up by single punches from fighters who aren't noted as punchers.

 

Dream match up stylistically if it's the later Cotto with active footwork.

I favour Spence in any case but a Flat footed Cotto would have been toast.

Saying that Spence doesn't have a stellar chin is just ignoring a fact. Margarito has been stopped, Spence hasn't.

Garcia and Ugas ? Did you not see Spence's legs go when they caught him ? He even turned his back vs Garcia when he got hurt.

 

You say that with no context what so ever, Margarito was only stopped legitimately once from Mosley who's a puncher. And he took a beating in that fight taking hellacious shots throughout the fight. The other stoppage against Cotto was the bad eye from Pacquiao fight, and not due to Margarito's chin letting him down.

Spence has never took a beating or been hit round after round by a genuine puncher. And the few times he has been hit clean by fighters who aren't noted as punchers, hes been visibly shaken even turning his back on Garcia one time.

I don't think anyone here believes Spence has a better chin than Margarito.

 

Don't need any context, that's a fact. It stands by itself. Margarito got stopped and Spence hasn't. Just because Margarito takes beatings doesn't mean he has a better chin than a fighter who don't. Spence took some great shots from Brook and Brook can crack. He also took good shots from Swift and Swift can crack. The question is not whether Spence can take a beating but does he have a stellar chin on par with Margarito. I say he does but it will never be confirmed because Spence will never take the beatings that Margarito did.

Well isn't the fact that Margarito could take alot of punishment means he does have a good chin ?

All we know about Spence's chin so far is that mediocre punchers like Ugas, Garcia, had him on bambi legs with him even turning his back on Garcia. Yet you think Spence's chin is on the level of Margarito ? Actually baffling. If Spence even took half the amount of flush punches that Margarito took off a puncher like Mosley he'd be staring up at the lights.

 

When you get through talking, Margarito got knocked out and Spence never was. Brook hit just as hard as any fighter that Margarito has fought and Brook was touching Spence up real nice. Just because he is not getting beat in the face on a regualr basis doesn't mean he can't take the shot. The question is not who can take the most punishment. The question is can Spence take as good a shot as Margarito and my answer is, that he can because he has. Now, can he take a beating like Margarito, we might get that answer in the next fight and then again, we might not.

He lost to the likes of Canelo at Middleweight, and two ATGs in Pacquiao, Mayweather, theres a huge difference between the fighters Cotto fought and the fighters Spence has fought.
