He’s been gone for over seven years now and at times it still doesn’t even seem real. And no I never knew him personally…. Never met him. I didn’t even grow up in his generation. But he was around for most of the time that I’ve been alive and I studied his career closely as well as had an appreciation for the societal impact he had. Feels bizarre that he’s gone

So amazing that a man of his impact and size on history only died 7 years ago.

Muhammad Ali had many activities besides boxing; social activities. Completely different from other champions. I'll mention just two things out of many that have nothing to do with boxing:
    1. Changed the name
    2. He didn't want to go to Vietnam

For those of us of a certain generation,Muhammad made a major impact - I lived, ate and breathed Ali during my youth and twenties and still a mega fan of him today. Subsequent generations recognise the historical signifigance. We'll never see the likes of him again.

    Hi Buddy.
You have nether said a truer word, he was a complete original, like you, I grew up with Ali, he more than any other fighter or fighters held me captivated from 69 to the Thriller, a colossus who strode not only the boxing world, but the world itself, his fighting style, his looks, the poem's,as he said himself, people in the jungles would recognise him, not so with presidents, or world leaders, surely we all know by now, most of the anger, outrage, dislike for opponentents was a well rehearsed act, of course there were some exceptions, but in the main it was playacting to bolster the receipts.
Also when you see him in the company of children, you get a glimpse of the real man, he was nether as happy as when fooling around with them, you could feel his love, I know their are some, maybe lots of people who disagree vehemently with the above, and that's there god given right, we must all make our own minds up about many things in this life of ours, so I will not waste time trying to convert, he made more of a impression on me, than all the Kings presidents, world leaders and politicians rolled up together, and he has been my No 1 HW pick for as long as I can remember, and I will not be dissuaded.
    stay safe Stevie.

I miss my mother, and her father. I miss Black Cloud and Djanders. I don't miss any celebrities or fighters.

But that in part is perhaps because he's still around. He is forever popping up in my youtube feed.

Why? He didn’t say a word for like 30 years before he died. Maybe you just miss him the way he was in the 60s an 70s but he was like a zombie for decades even though they said he still had a sharp mind which kinda makes it even worse for him. Personally being born in 90, when he was already physically gone, I can’t say I had much of a connection with him though obviously been a boxing fan ,watching old vids of him I can see what a great fighter an public personality he was back then

Yes unfortunately his granddaughter announced his passing, a short while ago.
Very sad, he was the grandaddy of the forum and is keenly missed.

I missed this. Sad news. RIP. He was a gentleman. I could never get my head around someone posting today, who had witnessed some of the long ago things he did. This site is poorer for his absence.
