That's because he has never benched before, as benching is pretty much useless for a boxer, especially a lightweight. I'm sure he would get above average results very quickly if he focused on it.
Dudes about 5'10 and walks around about 150. I wouldnt be expectinf him to be putting up big numbers.
Seems like quite a few guys in here would have trouble putting up 135. 135, that’s high school athlete beginnings right there.
A small clip showing RG struggling a bit. Maybe he's cycle training and this was the 6th set he has done, so his muscles are spent.
Just watched that back he's really weak. Even at about 13 years old when I would have been about Ryan's weight I could have easily benched this. Crazy he can generate good power. Still I think physical weakness isn't his only issue, also mental.
I've always found the bench to be a football exercise and not really that useful for boxing. That said, not being able to easily put up 135 as a man and pro athlete is pretty weak. Hopefully this was at the end of a tough workout when he was already tired
Beterbiev is a slow, plodding fighter that brutalizes opponents. He needs to be strong because he damn sure isnt fast. Most fighters prioritize speed for a reason.
Bunch of Ryan fanboys on here excusing this. Physical strength is absolutely a necessity in boxing, and the lack of it is one of Ryan's weaknesses. No one is expecting Ryan to be able to bench 350, but not being able to bench his own body weight is pathetic.
