Frazier and Norton were good friends and so refused to fight one another. The pair did though spar many rounds together in camp. Logic dictates that Frazier probably would have found a way to grind out a win in what would undoubtedly have been a tough and action packed fight.
As Jake Speed put it is correct. Many times Joe Frazier and Ken Norton were asked if they would ever fight each other, the answer was always Never. No amount of money could ever pit these two friends against each other, believe me it was tried on various occasions.
Joe wins but he will know he’s been in a fight. And the reason it didn’t happen is as everyone has stated.
Thanks for the explanation. It would be nice if there were more such examples today. There is an example of the Klitschko brothers, but they were biological brothers. I can't really imagine today two top 10 heavyweights saying: "We're not going to fight, because we're friends." Is there such an example today? Tyson Fury and Joseph Parker?
Possibly. Joe Frazier and Ken Norton were good friends until the bitter end, both were trained by Eddie Futch, both sparred together in preparation for big fights.
After they both retired,Joe said in an interview that if enough money had been brought to the table he would have been willing to fight Ken.
But in truth, the both of them had a strong bond as friends. Money lasts for a while but friendships can last for life. If you invest your ring earnings right, not go on a spending spree like a child in a candy store there is no reason to react out of desperation and crave the almighty dollar over a deep friendship. There are needs and wants in life, the needs are purchased, the wants are saved for.
HI Richard! Good to see you back. Got to give Joe and Kenny their due, good friends and wouldn't fight.
Thanks for the Welcome Back, a short but needed vacation. I always admired Joe Frazier and Ken Norton for their commitment to their friendship over the almighty dollar, more people in this world are needed like those two.
