I’m well past the days of doing anything but working out, but I was in Florida last week and visited a gym and got three days of good work. Two days of just bags but paid for mitt work one day and got a very good workout. It’s always neat going to a different gym to experience the vibe and atmosphere, get a feel for the place. The first day always seems to take a bit more out of me because I guess whether you mean to or want to or not, you’re self-conscious about other people and wanting to not look like a rube, haha. But it really is a fraternity of sorts — I’ve worked out in gyms near and far, even overseas, and they’re always welcoming and friendly to anyone in the ‘brotherhood,’ so to speak. Once you get to know them even a little bit it’s like we’re all gym mates. If you haven’t ever done it, throw the equipment in the trunk or whatever sometime when you travel and look on the internet and find a new gym to check out!
I love going to new gyms. Years ago, when phonebooks still existed, that was the first thing that I would look for when I went to a new place.
