I agree that Anderson needs to blast out Martin and look really impressive. I disagree on the Joshua point. I'll be disappointed if it ends like that. I recently watched the Joshua fight again. Martin went down but never looked hurt or out of it. And he was clear headed and appeared to get up before the 10 count and the ref still waved it off. Anderson needs to demolish Martin like Luis Ortiz finished him off. Ortiz really had Martin so stunned that Martin started talking to someone who wasn't there. If it looks like the Joshua fight, and Martin goes down and doesn't look hurt at all, and hops up and complains about the stoppage it won't mean much. Ortiz is really the only guy who hurt Martin badly. And Martin hurt Ortiz badly before that. Martin's not usually an easy out. So an early, brutal KO would be great.
You're right Martin could have definitely gotten up from the Joshua knock downs he simply quit, likely due to him knowing he was massively out classed and Joshua hadn't even gotten out of first gear yet, so probably thought it better to quit than risk seeing what Joshua in a higher gear could do. Martin did seem to show more desire and heart against Ortiz and I actually think that's the best version of Martin we've seen, much better than the version that fought Joshua. Question is which version will we see vs Anderson, a motivated one who believes he can win like we saw vs Ortiz or one who simply shows up for a pay check like vs Joshua.
Anderson takes too many shots flush and I think it will catch up to him (I thought Zhan may have been the one to do it), but Charles "God" Martin isn't the guy to do it. Anderson KO1 or KO2
I would even say that Akpejiori has a better chance against Makhmudov than Martin has against Anderson, the reason being that Martin is not in a great shape...
He simply didn't do enough vs Kownacki in the first half. He looked OK, better than he had looked coming in to the Joshua fight where he was so amateurish and for the first time used a strength and conditioning coach. But for me is best performance was vs Ortiz. I was actually surprised at the improvements he had made in that fight. That's the best he's looked, despite the ending.
I didn't realize how much bigger Martin is compared to Anderson, I think he's going to give Anderson a good test, I'm anxious to see how well he deals with Martin's southpaw jab.
I thought Martin looked very good on the scales, never been this fit before. But I do think Anderson will walk through him anyway.
Always thought Martin has underrated durability but very overrated power. He's a bit of a slapper and his KO record is extremely padded. Couldn't hurt glass-jawed Corbin and managed to get a mercy stoppage over Zumbano Love in the final round. I thought Jared will finish him in two rounds but not so sure about that after seeing him crying to Roy Jones, dude is probably not cut out for combat sports.
Anderson by stoppage in the 4th or 5th. Excited to see him with an opponent that has some sort of name in the game.
Anderson is my favorite prospect at the weight but I think this could he a trap fight. Martin held his own vs kownacki, Ortiz and leveled Washington. The only time he was blown out was by Joshua. I figure this goes rounds
