Most people would agree that Ali had more or less reached the very end of an All Time Great career by that point.

But, if one wanted to put a very negative spin on that circumstance, they might convey this in the way that you have here.

    Maybe-

    Pulev
    Byrd
    Povetkin
    Haye
    Rahman

Not that great, I'd agree there....what would you rate as Foreman's best 5 wins of his1st career?

Rahman was gone already. Iggy and Chagaev were a lot better.

That's off the top of my head, in my mind he had a bit left and had some cred. Either way, I was never a big Wlad fan at all...although I do rate him highly.

    Foreman's best First-Career Wins.

    Frazier (I)
    Norton
    Frazier (II)
    Lyle
    Chuvalo

    Frazier beats Povetkin
    Haye beats Norton
Iggy probably beats rematch Frazier (Frazier was finished)
    Byrd beats Lyle
    Pulev beats Chuvalo

And then Wlad has another five to ten solid wins including a second time with Byrd.

    Fantasize all you like.

Foreman operated at a superior level to Wlad.

Foreman was never hurt in that bout until he tired. He hurt Frazier and Norton with similar punches, and knocked out the extremely durable Bonavena as well and Foreman walked right through it!

Evidence points to a totally different reality. Foreman had two successful defenses and didn’t win a 12 round decision until the mid nineties.

I don't think you know what the words "superior level" mean.

People found it boring because of Wladimir and Vitalis dominance. The fact that top contenders didn't face each other generally probably didn't help either. But some of the guys he fought look skilled on film and have attributes that could have made them champions in other eras.

There seems to be this circular reasoning that if a guy is always winning his competition is weak but if the top guys struggle and lose its proof of a strong wra when in reality it might be that the top guys are not good or inconsistent.

Riddick Bowe seems like a good example of this
