He won the gold medal on the basis of being English on English soil.

Hopefully he keeps posting over here instead of having to constantly read his nonsense on the British board.

He didn’t have to take that mandatory, quite easily could have relinquished the belt as he was at that time much bigger than any title. He decided to take the hardest fight of his career and he deserves even a little credit for that. Also losing to Usyk is hardly embarrassing, he’s an ATG. What is embarrassing is Tyson Fury getting a gift against Wallin and then claiming he is the best of all time.

Not really. Ruiz has a better single win than Wilder and has also beat Wilders single best win. All Wilder has is longevity and AJ has that too but with better wins.

True but that wasn't a unique situation, amateur boxing is so corrupt it's amazing the IOC didn't strip AIBA earlier than they did before. We all recall how RJJ was denied his gold medal in Seoul. The boxing at Rio in 2016 was just robbery after robbery.

So yeah he was a recipient of a dodgy decision or two, personally I had him only losing to Savon the rest were close enough to be debateable. But that's not really his fault, it's not like he was the one bribing the officials, he was just the beneficiary of some other persons back room deal.

    So many wide views.
AJ has been a top HW for about a decade. At times top 1-2 and now still top 3-5. His next few fights will determine where he will be ranked in the near future. Like many, I don't think he's completely gotten over the stoppage loss to Ruiz.

Before he retires, I'd like to see AJ vs. Fury, Wilder, and at least a few other top HWs like Hrgović or a promising youngster like Anderson.

Rubbish. The first Ruiz fight what pretty strange, but win or lose, he has acquitted himself honorably since.

It boggles my mind that anyone would hate on the one guy in the division who actually fights frequently.

We have to add that not only was Pulev 40, he'd just had Covid but couldn't cancel because he pulled out the first time with an injury and wouldn't get the fight again.

Usyk was untested at HW and Joshua was the favourite, it wasn't a big risk at the time and they were confident the size and power would make the difference. Only after the first fight did people realise what Usyk could do and Joshua had to take the rematch to try to salvage his 'brand'. There was ZERO bravery in taking on Usyk at that time, especially when the judges were corrupt and Usyk needed domination just to get a win.

There was no excuse to 'rebuild' with Franklin after just losing to Usyk on points. They're just scared of losing now, unless it's a 'super fight'.

Literally ducked Fury and even Whyte [with Franklin].

Still hasn't educated Eddie Chambers about supremacy matters on this planet.

the bloke always needs the home advantage cant win without it he knows if hes crap he will still get it on points unless hes dominated look at the parker fight no urgency in that he didnt lay glove on parker but he knew he would win by land slide on cards lol

This is a really poor post.

How on earth is it a disgrace?

    I’ve never been a fan.

I never bought into the hype.

But he’s tried his best. Nothing he’s done has been disgraceful. He got bombed out against Ruiz. He then went away and regrouped. He then changed his tactics and won the rematch. It was very boring to watch, but he deserves credit for implementing a different plan and getting the win.

Since then, he’s fought a great fighter in Usyk. He gave it his all, but he lost twice to the better guy. And the losses clearly hurt him mentally. So he’s since regrouped and took on a much lesser opponent in a tune up fight.

    Your thread is silly.

You’d have been better off just saying that he’d been overrated for years.

Nothing he has done has been disgraceful.

I also truly believe that he’d have fought Tyson last year, but it was Eddie who didn’t want the fight, and for obvious reasons.

    It wasn’t embarrassing.

To him personally, but not to the boxing world.

Yes, Fury has fought Wilder 3 times.

    And?

    AJ has fought Usyk twice.

    Why won’t Fury fight Usyk?

There’s no evidence of him ducking those guys.

    Don’t be silly.

Only one good win in 10 years?

The worst loss in HW history?

    His record is terrible?

What about Wilder and Fury’s resumes/records?

    A European competitor?

    What are you saying?

That he’s Euro level, as in - not world class?
