Heard whispers recently that allegedly he's not happy with the powers that be at MR. Not sure if it's been mentioned on here but has anyone seen IFL's recent interview with him ? He goes in pretty hard on Eddie and MR , obviously he's not happy with being stripped of his title but it seems the whispers might be true with the way he was talking about being kept in the dark and badly treated.
He's right to feel aggrieved about being stripped, but the IBF tend to be pretty strict about these things, and he's mandated to fight the winner of the vacant title anyway. Matchroom have done a good job with him. He looked lacklustre in 2020 and 2021 and they got him the fight in Wales against Ogawa which he performed immensely in as a lot of people backed him to lose that one. I think he'd be silly to leave Matchroom for Boxxer personally.
Yeah, I mentioned this in the DAZN thread. Matchroom are a bit of leaky ship at the moment. They are concentrating on the big international fights, maybe its not such a bad idea to fight on Sky, its still the best place to grow a profile and get exposure.
Yeah I watched the IFL interview and his frustration with the IBF situation and how Matchroom are handling him is clear as day.
Going by that interview he's more aggrieved at his treatment by MR than being stripped, he apparently has been kept in the dark about a lot of things, cant get answers or firm commitments from Eddie etc. I'd say it would be pretty hard for him to stay with MR after his contract expires after this interview/rant.
Says he didn’t know it was contracted that Rakhimov had to fight for the title in a certain number of days because Matchroom never told him. Maybe if he knew he’d have put off the hand operation.
I think Cordina is just one in a number of domestic fighters that will move on soon, there seems to be a lot of disillusioned boxers on Matchrooms books at the minute. Cordina, Saunders, Fowler, Cheeseman, Hopey Price, Gill, Okolie, to name a few are all stalled or in stalling careers at the minute, whether that be due to injury, inactivity or losses. Its not all entirely down to the promoters, but there's a lot that are barely fighting once a year.
I think Saunders and Cheeseman both have one foot out the door at this point anyway. Hopey Price though he should be way more active, maybe not his fault that he isn't.
It’s some fall Matchroom seem to be on that moment; one of the key to their successes in years gone by was the positive relationship they seemed to have with the fighters, hence hardly anyone leaving the stable. These days it’s opposite.
That's Matchroom's biggest problem right now. The boxers get almost no fights, and therefore it is incredibly difficult to motivate yourself. Don't understand that they don't get better at communicating so the boxers know about their future plans. Have heard that several of the undercard boxers from the Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn event has lost a lot of money. Will they be compensated ?
Cordina not happy? Couldn't he get his Doctor (who lives 200 miles from the gym) to prescribe him something?
Apparently Cordina will defend against Zelfa Barrett October / November in Cardiff. If he can’t then get a unification (most likely against WBC Champion Foster), Cordina could instead fight the winner of Wood Warrington at 130 in the summer. They could do Cordina Wood at the City Ground and sell it as Wood trying to become a 2-weight world champion by beating the undefeated Cordina. This all aged extremely well.
12:25am on a Saturday morning. I pray that they're giving you more than a free month Dazn subscription for your work, I really do.
