It really really depends on how much Beterbiev manages to land. Calzaghe was freakishly fast and quite elusive. On the other hand Beterbiev is an underrated boxer with underrated footwork. He's actually quite good at making a big ring small. He's also got a few sly little dirty tricks like stepping on a guy's foot to slow his mobility down. I honestly don't know who to pick, they're both standout performers.
I wouldn't necessarily say Hopkins was shot to pieces. That was a solid win, considering what Hopkins did after their fight.
Hopkins' latest KO was in 2004. Hopkins was 43 years old when he fought calzaghe. Ofc he was shot to pieces. Nothing even remotely close to what prime hopkins was. Same with RJJ, what calzaghe fought was a shadow of RJJ.
Hop's wasn't prime, I'll give you that, but he was not shot. He still went on the beat Dawson, Pavlik, Cloud and Shumanov after his loss to JC. I can't think of many past greats who could beat that group of guys in their mind 40's.
43 year old. He has never KO'ed not even a single oponent since 4 years before he fought calzaghe. Sorry, that's pretty much the definition of shot. Have you thought about those names that you mention being overrated? you can add pascal to that list, tbw. And nothing can make me think that a 43 years old unable to KO a single guy since he was 37 is not shot. Fourty freaking three year old. He could have grandchildren if done properly.
Calzaghe would be decimated. There is no way Beterbiev would refuse to walk through Calzaghe's weak punches if all else failed; he'd happily take six to land one. It would be a disaster for Calzaghe.
I don't understand how Calzaghe would have resisted in a division where he has only fought two fights. He beat both greats, but he would have lost to both if they were prime. And in both cases he was on the floor in the first round. This is not an encouraging circumstance if the opponent is Beterbiev. Beterbiev wins. Maybe KO 10, like Gvozdyk.
I think if Hop's was truly shot as you say, he would have lost to Pavlik and Dawson. But hey, your intitled to your opinion. I just have a slightly diffrent take on the matter.
He did lose to Dawson. Would have been twice, but Hopkins stopped after a low blow in first fight and it was a no decision I believe. Don’t think Calzaghe could take the power punches of Artur.
