wards olympic run was alltime. I saw him at the 98 blue and gold get mauled by jesus el martillo gonzalez and hes been unbeaten since. I didnt like the low blows vs kov but at the same right, kov shoulda gone low right back. Its his own fault. You gotta get the refs attention by immediately going low back. Look at matysse vs danny g, same ****. Danny g threw 20 plus low blows. If both mattysse and kov go low immediately the outcome is prob diff.

I think he actually has decent pop. Shuichiro is a tough guy and he dropped him a couple of times. In his two fights before that that he dropped both Valdez and Conceicao. He isn't a good finisher or a one punch KO artist, but he definitely isn't a feather-fist.

Lots of bhop haters were wondering why he took his opponents to deep water, to make them swim and sink, instead of kayoing them by ko. It is because he WAS that guy knocking fools out, except it was in his youth. He kept modifying his style over time to achieve longevity, not fizz, sparkle and fade. His fights with Segundo mercado (if I remember correctly) (spelling off?) We're brutal. Same thing with Antoine Echols. Bhop was a beast, he just had to adapt because everybody knows as you get older you lose your legs and fight in spurts: Hopkins was brilliant to have that kind of long term success

Most people, like myself, only picked up the Hopkins bandwagon where he last left off versus Trinidad. THAT was a brutal fight where he showed up and performed. As Hopkins aged he had some good fights with Jermaine taylor, and his record of 20+ defences was quite the run. Remember, kos aren't always guaranteed when one fights the world's best. He was a genius, in every ring magazine he used to put a educational learning lesson on how to fight and do a move! Prisons got rid of that magazine for that reason; it was breeding boxers/ violence.

At 40 hops could have retired, at 50 he could have retired. I guess that's why he's called the alien, just super natural. He had large heuves too later in his career moving up in weight!

I think the nicest thing he ever did was help "Dewey bozella" (watch the documentary) to come to his gym in Philly and train him with Hopkins own sub/ other trainers at the gym where he was preparing for a fight, me thinks it was vs Chad Dawson. Anyway Dewey needed to gain his professional licence in the CSAC to be allowed to fight. His trainers not only got him ready and passed the test, he (Dewey) also : fought his first pro fight as a heavyweight, was 52 years old, retired after being called CHAMP by max Kellerman. And most importantly won the Arthur Ashe award for most courage by an athlete that year. Hopkins was in essence very humanitarian to do this for Dewey.

Hops said "we both did time, but Dewey was innocent, I (Hopkins) was guilty. Heck the story of Bernard Hopkins sounds almost just as good as the story the way he tells it! Special fighter man.

BHop lost 8-4 to RJJ - a fighter whose popped for PEDs. BHop was fighting killers in his goddamn 50s - a true stud.

He wasnt making any money and he knew he was gonna have to have longevity in the sport to make money. But ya, i remember in early interviews hopkins was saying he wanted to ko everybody like tyson. He also knew he needed a name like trinidad to show his skill and introduce himself to fly by night fans. After trinidad beat joppy he was planning on skipping over hopkins and fighting jones in a huge money super fight. Thats when bhop threw down the flag. If he didnt pull that stunt he might never have got that opponent like a trinidad or delahoya. Guy was just super intelligent in every aspect of boxing. Total student of the game. I met bhop at the hard rock in vegas. I saw him cutting threw with a fishermans hat pulled low so nobody would recognize him. He was at the top of an escalator and i yelled out, vintage performance vs joe calzaghie. He ran back down the escalator to say whatup and invited me to his cabana to talk boxing. Guys hands and wrists were huge for his size and he was walking 185 no prb. was easy to see why he could wear down a fighterr if he could consistently hit you.

and bhop won the last 4 rounds of that fight. I think roy woulda won a rematch at 168 with bhop but not at 160. Bhop knew he made a tactical mistake in that fight that cost him.

I never met Bernard Hopkins but I've met Canadian hw Ken lakusta. He didn't look that big post career, I remember he got steamrolled by David tua. At the time he was training Chris (can't remember his last name) the Canadian golden boy and not named Donny Lalonde lol.

The reason I bring this up is because Hopkins was big on the Canadian scene manhandling Jean Pascal and he would be welcome to come back anytime!

The way I see it, get in where you fit in. If Hopkins wants another big challenge but needs to wade away from top notch competitors, he would be awesome to see in the Canadian leagues, heck he could come in at 160, 168, 175, 200, or heavyweight! He is known for his 28" waist but if he stays retired that would be alright too!

It’s that there is nothing we can do about it
So I am just enjoying what I can
I’m not gonna just stop watching boxing…

not necessarily indongo but them type of guys should get more respect especially in this current boxing landscape where it seems everybody trying to follow the path of least resistance trying to talk they way into a payday instead of fighting for it. A quote I heard from Andre Ward a few weeks ago. Some of these guys that the media and fans say is that guy isn’t really that guy

Wonder who he had in mind. My thoughts drift towards Munguia and Berlanga.
