Well Martin proved to be a good test for Anderson and was able to expose some wrinkles in his game.

Firstly it's one thing to be KOing journeymen but once you step up to a higher level guys that look like punchers can suddenly look feather fisted. Anderson's power isn't top tier that's for sure, he has some pop but he isn't some huge puncher.

Secondly, my concerns about is low guard seemed justified. He's there to be countered, we saw it vs Arias at times who was too small to fully exploit this flaw and Martin again showed that low hands style, only relying on head movement defence can be pierced when timed with a good counter. Anderson is simply too static at times, especially after he throws, he could actually learn from Martin in this regard this is something Martin used to do as we saw vs Joshua, but now Martin moves off after throwing, his balance still sucks but he moves laterally pretty well now.

Martin gave a good account of himself, might have been far more competitive if he hadn't come in at short notice. He seemed unable to press his advantage at times, perhaps due to simply not having it in the gas tank.

Suffice to say despite what all his fans have been saying, Anderson isn't top tier based off this performance. He's still fast and got a good jab but might simply be lacking in too many areas to get to the very top. He might turn out like Parker, a fast guy, who's a bit undersized, who isn't that big a puncher and who doesn't have the versatility or the tools to beat any of the top heavyweights but can give anyone else a good fight.

Or... as I've been saying for the last few years, he's horribly overrated.

Nah I'm hoping they double down and go off the rails with things like
"Anderson's performance tonight proves if he was put in there with a prime Muhammad Ali, he would win"
"Let me say this, Larry Holmes couldn't hold Jared Andersons jock strap"
"Lennox Lewis if he fought the Anderson we saw tonight, it would be a repeat of McCall Lewis 1"

Let them get real stupid with it.

That's one way to look at it.

Another is that he's more shopworn. Guys been stopped multiple times now.

I have no reason to believe this Martin is significantly better than the one that AJ fought. And even if he is slightly better than he was when AJ fought him, it doesn't make up for the huge chasm between a 10 round decision win while getting rocked multiple times... and a two round demolition job, imo.

We will see with time how much of this fight was experience, and Martin being some evolved enhanced version of himself, vs this just being indicative of Andersons level. Time will tell. I wager its his level.

I'm gonna need them to double down on a double down then. If they are gonna be dumb and hype men let's take it to the next level of dumb hype men.

I want the hottest and dumbest of takes, I know they are capable of it.

i think his style is more suited for cruiser, the issue with Jared is he doesn't have a huge punch, his defense is a little open and apparently has a dodgy chin, but he's fast and active. At HW, that's a recipe for disaster.

Sorry 23, the point stands he’s not even in his physical prime yet, he’s got plenty of room to improve.

Anderson is like the heavyweight version of Berlanga. Both feed bums to get the KO hype which did them no good at all and had them pick up bad habits. Both rely on the power to bail them out and when the opponent doesn't just stand there they are flustered. Both have looked less than spectacular in there kind of a step opponents. I wouldn't call Martin in 12 days notice a step up nor would I call Quigley a step up. True contender should have stopped them both.

That's why Francis needs to fight a big name immediately so he doesn't get exposed even against a Top 200 opponent

He didn’t almost get KTFO, per usual that’s extreme hyperbole. He was buzzed a couple times, didn’t go down, nothing crazy he just got hit a couple times and was stunned a little.

Nothing wrong with his trainers. It's Marc Ramsey and co

Mak is just in love with his power at the moment and probably always will be from now on. If he can calm down he is actually semi decent
Problem is he knows he can get Anyone out of there in a few rounds so is always looking to make that statement.

Already a pisspoor spin doctor trying to rewrite history, you have no shame. That would have been a British stoppage in the UK. He was bad off in the fifth round and you know it.
