The guy who has KOd everyone Vs the guy who got knocked down by two old past-their-prime fighters when he stepped up to LHW! Uh yeah.... If Calslappy was as good as his fans thought he was he wouldn't have had so many confidence issues and would have stepped up to LHW years sooner. He almost pulled out of the Lacy fight before his dad talked him back into it. Kid didn't have the heart you all thought he did. Read up on his career pre 2004 and you'll see how many postponements and pullouts he had. He was Euro level for so long for a reason
Pulled out 3 times against Glen Johnson aswell, now i'm not saying Johnson was anything special. But he did beat a better version of RJJ than Calzaghe beat by KO aswell i might add, and out pointed Antonio Tarver.
Maybe that will be a close fight because Calzaghe is crazy and unorthodox in every aspect, but I think Artur's strength and power will decide the outcome.
Beterbiev becoming a bit overrated Hes best around today but too stationary and one dimensional for the greats in and around 168/175
And what did Calslappy did to solidify himself as an ATG at 175lbs? Bookmark my post. Beterbiev will retire undefeated with a 100% KO rate and will be talked about in mythical terms as time goes on.
Joe had skills and good attributes also but being honest he was a career SMW,up at LHW it’s hard to look past a Beterbiev win. Now if Joe had this mythical match up with Beterbiev down at SMW then it would be far more interesting but Im still not so sure if Joe could get the win at SMW. Joe would certainly need to gain Beterbievs respect from the start otherwise Beterbiev does what Beterbiev does and he’s a legit monster .
Calzaghe would've slapped some sense into him. Zag had that feetswork, speed, & hand eye coordination that would befuddle the Beef and then superior stamina for the latter rounds.
They would have fought in 2004 if Johnson had waited instead of fighting Jones. Johnson told Dan Goosen to forget about Joe. Yet he came running back to Calzaghe when Joe became a superstar after whooping Lacy. BBC Tuesday, 8 June, 2004 But Johnson is adamant Calzaghe has lost his chance, saying: "The fight is off. I'm not interested in fighting Joe Calzaghe any more. Johnson refused to wait for the fight to be rescheduled in 04. Calzaghe then agreed to fight Johnson in September 06 on the condition that Johnson beat Woods in their 3rd fight. However Johnson lost and missed his chance. Calzaghe was ringside for this fight - some scared ducker hey. Everybody was beating johnson before he popped up on the hbo screen and KOd jones jr.
You’re not telling the full story. Johnson said those comments in anger, because Joe had already pulled out once before. So that was the second time that he’d pulled out. Johnson was never going to wait for him a 3rd time and pass up a shot against Roy. Nobody in his position would have done that.
