Of course he'll get credit for beating Golovkin it'll be the best win of his career despite Golovkin's age. Golovkin has only officially lost to Canelo and even though Golovkin lost to Canelo legit in their last fight, it wasn't like it was a blowout Golovkin won near enough every round after the 8th round and made it close.

Golovkin is a Hall of Famer it would be a fantastic name on Ryder's resume if he pulled it off.

farewell flights are often not against a super high caliber opposition anyway so I don’t know what you’re talking about

What’s the point of GGG carrying on?

At this point it’s all just an elongated farewell tour he’s pretty much been retired since Canelo II

i’d rather a Hall of Fame fighter retire coming off a win, particularly in front of his hometown or adopted hometown fans.

Name a fight that will bolster his retirement fund more?

It's not dumb in the slightest

I think for a farewell flight, you’re being a little harsh, John Ryder was ranked as high as number four at super middleweight before he fought Clenelo. He’s still in the top 10 to begin with. For a farewell fight, I think he’s actually choosing a harder fight than most people would take.

I tend to think that GGG will retire or is retired. I think that 168lbs is probably the weight he should fight at if he continues. He seemed to tire at times vs Murata and looked unusually lean and muscular. He did a hell of a job in that fight though, and finished like a warrior. Although he didn't seem to tire vs Canelo in the trilogy fight, one could argue that he didn't do enough offensively to tire himself out. He looked by far the fresher fighter at the end of that fight though. If Golovkin can regain some of his fire from the Murata fight, along with the freshness from not having to cut as much weight, then Ryder would be a great apponent. Ryder will stand and trade with Golovkin, who if he still has fire in his belly and lets those heavy hands go, should by able to bludgeon Ryder into a 10th round stoppage, which would be an ideal way for GGG to go out. I'm just not sure if this fight will really happen though, otherwise, his last two fights weren't too shabby either as a whole.

True, what Golovkin don't need is another loss on his record, that does him no good.

Ryder is indeed a true 168lb contender, and tough as old boots.

For a 40 yr old GGG this would be a good matchup.

GGG disappears for far too long & takes forever to actually fight again, if he wasn't as choosy the last four years & more active he would have been better off plus i never see him updating the fans with anything either in all his time off.

Not the easiest fight for either of them at this stage. Both are at some risk. I really, really need to see that Golovkin has aged to pick Ryder over him though. There are some styles I think would be too much for Golovkin historically and especially at this point, Ryder ain't that style though
