We all know Mike Tyson went cannibal against Holyfield, but he’s not the only one. Was thinking we could put together a pretty good list of boxing’s Hannibal Lecter types who were known to bite opponents, or at least alleged to have done so: 1) Tyson bit Holyfield. He also bit Lennox Lewis’ leg at a press conference. 2) Floyd “Jumbo” Cummings bit Renaldo Snipes on the shoulder in their fight. 3) Mysterious Billy Smith was DQ’d for biting Al Neill on the shoulder in their 1902 bout, one of 13 or so documented DQ losses for Mysterious Billy, called by some the dirtiest fighter who ever lived. I’m certain there are others. Let’s sharpen up our knives and forks and dig in. EDIT: For the record, it seems clear that neither Wilbert “Vampire” Johnson nor Leon Spinks (nicknamed “The Vampire” by Muhammad Ali) ever bit anyone in the ring. Or outside it, far as we know.
Andrew Golota on Samson P’ouha Michael Bentt on Herbie Hide Evander Holyfield said he bit an opponent as an amateur. This content is protected
I know there was some heavyweight fight where I saw a bite on either ESPN or USA Network back in the day. For some reason I want to say it involved Louis Monaco but I’m not 100% sure of it … and if it did, can’t remember if the was the biter or bitten.
That actually rings a bell, Mike. I guess that would be highest point that a full stretched, on his toe tips Tyson could reach on McBride's body. When they faced off, the height difference was comical.
