Send him in. Are you going to send in Michael Spinks, Matthew Franklin, Dwight Qawi, John Conteh....

RJJ has the potential to box rings around him. And hits hard enough to effect him.

Jack Dempsey was/is not John Ruiz, and he may be Antonio Tarver.

Aside from Tunney, prime RJJ would be the best Dempsey opponent. And RJJ is arguably better than Tunney

Gimme Archie Moore and I’ll take my chances.

Not a guarantee but he could flummox Jack enough and use his aggression against him, walking him into counters. The punch that put Marciano down might be enough to keep Dempsey buzzed enough to stop him on the follow-up (especially under Dempsey-era rules where Archie could stand over him and bop him soon as he got up).

And Antonio Tarver was better than RJJ. Are saying Tarver beats Dempsey? Yes I know styles make fights. Tommy Loughran was damn good.

I don't think any of them ... Dempsey was possibly overrated in the second half of the 20th Century but has become terribly underrated today (my opinion ) ... the 1919 / 20 version was so much faster of hand and foot then the 26/27 vintage that fought Tunney ... best for best he wrecks any of them ... now I would not pick him against a prime Tyson or many of the larger terrific fighters from the mid 80's forward .. different discussion ...

Well Dempsey facing any of those four for the title would answer the colour line question, sometimes mentioned regarding Jack.

I will say give Archie Moore a title shot against Dempsey

Tarver wasn't better than prime RJJ

I think Spinks, Moore, Charles, Moorer, Ward give Dempsey tough scraps.

He beat RJJ TWICE. If he wasn't in his prime he was only a couple years off prime.
Was it you or Antonio who said "what's your excuse this time, Roy".
