Just watch the Welterweight bouts this weekend to get your spark back. It’s been a great year so far.
It's been fire just this year alone. Ajagba-Shaw Smith-Eubank Jr. Beterbiev-Yarde Lara-Wood I and II Jack-Makabu Takam-Yoka Benavidez-Plant Zhang-Joyce Davis-Garcia Canelo-Ryder Haney-Lomachenko Taylor-Lopez Ioka-Franco II .. and all the other tasty little fights like Ellis-Villa, Joshua-Franklin, Cordina-Shere Khan etc.
People complain about boxing every year, and also did in the 1990's - the decade that fans online glorify these days. The fact that we have more access to information (misinformation/disinformation included) means that it can get tiresome quickly. I find it best to just skim past all of the gossip unless I feel it has real substance, which is not very often.
This year has been great. All the mma>boxing talk has left town for the time being. For younger guys, it’s one of the best years they’ve ever seen.
It's been a really good year. Boxing is just irrelevant now though. After Canelo and Fury there aren't many household names out there that casuals would know. The next highest paid and known "boxers" are Youtubers. It's sad. Tommy Fury was always a bit of a joke and now he has gone full-on Youtube fighter. It's easier and way more profitable than being in a real fight with actually skilled fighters.
Can't agree at all. This has been an incredible year through the first half, and the third quarter already has some fights that look promising. This month alone has Ennis-Villa and Stanionis-Ortiz at the beginning and Fulton-Inoue and Crawford-Spence at the end. Next month we're getting Navarrete-Valdez, Beterbiev-Smith and Usyk-Dubois, with the possibility of Anderson-Kossobutskiy, and a month later we'll be getting Zhang-Joyce II. Plus we might wrap the year up with Usyk-Hrgovic and AJ-Wilder. Some weight classes have been disappointing lately, sure. But as a whole boxing is doing pretty damn good in 2023.
I can't say, I've only been really into boxing for the last two years and while I do watch archive fights, I have a hard time keeping track of what happened when. I can certainly say it's been the best year since I became a fan if nothing else
Thanks man I left some of my old hobbies behind not too long before getting into this because I realized I wasn't getting any enjoyment out of them anymore. So I now had a bunch of free time and ended up watching some boxing matches, and I decided to just throw myself into it. Just watched old stuff at first, because I bought into the notion "only old fighters were any good," but then I watched my first live card (Usyk-AJ) and I don't think there's any going back now
