Wilder is still suspect af to be honest. Winning against glass-chinned, never has-been Helenius doesn't change the fact that he had a career of smoke and mirrors with countless red flags. I shouldn't be able to say that a long reigning WBC champion might lose against unproven brawler, but if Makhmudov's chin holds up against the grazing, unclean shots as he goes in, he might just smother and off-balance the hell out of Wilder, landing an overhand right whilst changing head slots (Chava's and Tyson's favorite) or sneaking in uppercuts. Wilder being dropped by feather-fisted doesn't bode well for him against aggressive, tough punchers who are not complete journeymans or shot. Possibly better fight than one might except with an upset possibility.
Until Mahmoudov beats somebody decent we have to go with Wilder. AM was unable to KO Takam, something Chisora managed. A win over the CURRENT version of Ortiz would be his best win.
Two facets to this fight, Makhmudov is easy to hit and I don't think even he could shake off Wilder's best bomb and I could see him being dropped. On the other hand if he avoids it and gets inside he'll man handle Wilder like a rag doll and I know he can hurt Wilder with just a clubbing shot. Leaning Wilder but just by say 60/40 at best and if the odds are good I'd bet on the lion. But,,this fight will never happen I promise. I don't see any of the top guys going near Makhmudov.
So does wilder He hardly a defensive master He has no footwork nor jab push him back and hes disarmed
That would be an awesome matchup. I'd probably go with Makhmudov because so many of his punches land with so much power.
Takam isn't decent? He has about the same sort of record as Ortiz and has fought way more proven guys.
Takam lost to every good fighter he faced and was KOed by Chisora. He is decent enough but was 41 when AM fought him. It was also the first relative step up fight Mak had and coincidentally the only opponent he didn't stop. This isn't a knock on Maks power, he clearly hits very hard, I just think he's a bit limited.
Takam also pulled out of a fight he signed with Ortiz to fight Duhaupas instead, which never materialised either.
Based on the Takam and Wach fights I'm not convinced that Makhmudov would have beaten the versions of those fighters who fought Povetkin and Klitschko. He looks slow, easy to hit, one-dimensional, suspect-chinned and doesn't have a great engine. He's overhyped and Wilder would get little credit for beating him in retrospect.
Wilder simply wouldn't fight him And he could offer him 30% even though he ain't champion and dint bring the 0
Indeed, because Makhmudov brings nothing to the table. Wilder's looking at fighting Joshua in December or Ruiz before which are big status and money fights towards the end of his career, not a relatively unknown Russian who isn't ranked in the top 15.
