Yes, he seemed at times bizarrely distracted. His fight against Coetzee was excellent, he really proved again both his stamina and power. But the Tillis fight I think is where the biggest cracks started showing. Tillis was never much of a heavyweight, which accounted for why he was a stepping stone for seemingly everyone (except a young and misguided Tyson). His style should have made him mid-rounds meat for Mike, and yet the whole fight is a face palmer.

I think it is a shame he didn't wake up more during the Dokes II fight, he shouldn't have let it even go to a decision. He had more than enough punch to knock him silly.

Absolutely! If Coetzee could knock Dokes out, Weaver certainly could do it.

Weaver for me. In addition to all that was said, he gave Holmes hell.

    There you go mate.

Michael Dokes vs Mike Weaver 2

    1 Dokes
    2 Dokes
    3 Dokes
    4 Weaver
    5 Dokes
    6 Dokes
    7 Dokes
    8 Weaver
    9 Weaver
    10 Weaver
    11 Dokes
    12 Weaver
    13 Weaver
    14 Weaver
    15 Weaver

    143-142 Weaver

Dokes tried to come out fast and stop Weaver in the early going just like the 1st fight, but Weaver was much more prepared this time and held his ground. I felt like Dokes did a good job backing up Weaver in the first 3 rounds and out landing him with the more flashier shots. Dokes after the 3rd round decided to box on the backfoot with Weaver pursuing him, and the fight continued in the same pattern for the rest of the way.

I felt like despite Weaver being the aggressor he wasn't doing enough between rounds 5-7, and Dokes was nicking them rounds with his more active jab. But after the 8th round Dokes faded very badly and was basically retreating at this point with nothing on his punches, and whilst Weaver wasn't a whirling dervish himself. He was the aggressor landing the harder punches especially to the body, and Dokes was just flicking out a jab with nothing on it and just clinching.

Overall it was a close fight but to me Weaver looked like the winner, Dokes did virtually nothing in the 2nd half of the fight and was constantly retreating and clinching in the later rounds. Dokes started off well but didn't do enough for me in the 2nd half of the fight.

I agree having just watched Dokes vs Weaver 2 yesterday, Weaver could've got Dokes out of there I feel had it just upped his work a bit. Dokes was physically exhausted after 8 rounds, and was like a marathon runner falling at line he had nothing left really in last 5 rounds or so.

I know it's easy me sitting here saying a fighter should up his pace in a 15 round fight, but I dunno that was a bit of weakness for me for Weaver. He seemed to fight in one gear never really upping the pace in a big way.

Even vs Coetzee, Tate, Weaver basically out lasted Coetzee and vs Tate he found a hail mary punch in the last round.

Now don't get me wrong I like Weaver alot and it seems like I'm being harsh on him that's not my intention, he was very well conditioned boxer and could go deep into fights and was very strong willed.

But a few of his glaring weaknesses were being vulnerable to being caught early, and not lifting the pace enough often fighting too much in one gear.
