I don't think it will sweep aside quite so easy - a lot of the criticism is starting to stick. Ever since that 70-30 split for Usyk more and more people are questioning his achievements. People understandably wondering if he really is so great. It can be hard to pinpoint why some boxers are looked back on more favourably than others. But in 10 or 20 years time if people aren't considering Fury as an ATG then it'll be easy to say where he went wrong and failed to cement his legacy.
He’s making huge money. Is facing Ngannou any worse than facing some of the cans that have fought for world titles in recent years? They’re all going to get beat.
I guess the frustrating part is Fury really could go for greatness. Say he puts a masterclass on Usyk, Joshua, Hrgovic and any other up and comer this next few years and completely clears out the division. Then who knows just how highly he'll be looked back on and how well he'll be compared against former greats. On the flip side, he carries on like he is and people start questioning the Wlad rematch, was Wlad too old and had an off-night. What about Wilder's CV, was he really any good, etc. Nevermind if he does end up taking a big L. I guess as someone who's been a big Fury fan for many, many years it's disappointing to see him undermining his career.
I genuinely wish Fury had retired after Chisora now. The whole comeback story from 2015-20 is an all-time great tale in boxing and he really shouldn't need to fight again. He did things the old-fashioned way - English, British, Commonwealth, European, World - and if he'd said "sorry Usyk, you can fight someone else for the WBC" then that'd be an honourable way to go. Sadly he didn't choose it and the WBC is now both hostage to Fury but also Saudi money.
One of the things that really gets me about it is the fact for years and years, we've had to listen to Tyson, John and the rest of the fury clan tell us they're fighting men, they fight for the love of fighting, to fight the best. They live a simple life, they don't need money, fame or fortune, they fight because it's in their blood. The majority of people knew all of that was rubbish but even so... Now, when Fury is clearly on a money grab we're all meant to forget that and not question why he isn't going for greatness, going for legacy, going for undisputed? Most would agree, he's the top dog in the division and the man with the potential to clear out the rest and cement himself as the undisputed best of his generation, we're allowed to be p1ssed off as fans that it won't happen because of greed.
Fury will always have size on his side however. Usyk lives the life but the skills he relies on to be able to mix with people naturally far bigger than him will just disappear overnight at some point.
Such a shambles. There's no way a genuine world champion should be involved in a crossover fight. Discredits the sport. These exhibition fights are for when you are retired, bored and fancy a bit of money. This shouldn't be sanctioned and he should be stripped of the belts.
What a complete shitehawk Fury is. Fighting Chisora for a pointless third time and now some MMA lad that nobody has ever heard of. Like someone alluded to up the thread, he should vacate the belt and let the other lads have a go for it.
I don't know how any true boxing fan can be onboard with this, he's ruining the Heavyweight division. If he wants these fights, fine, do what you want you awkward idiot, just don't hold a belt hostage with broken promises while you're at it.
fantastic fighter but a huge troll and bipolar contradicting lying dickhead outside the ring how many times has he announced his retirement then reversed it ffs
Jake Paul a YouTuber boxing novice has got stick for beating retired UFC fighters. Now we have the lineal heavyweight champion of the world doing exactly the same. It's pathetic and Fury and Warren are treating real boxing fans like imbeciles.
I like Warren but he's just digging himself a bigger hole trying to justify this crap. They should ask him 1 question - does he think Ngannou would beat Joshua and Usyk? Fury's already doing videos with his groupies behind him shouting you big dosser and all the rest. The sooner he fcks off the better. Embarrassment to boxing.
