Mateo Tapia is latest Aussie boxer to head to LA to train with Justin Fortune. Too bad Luke Boyd is injured and Manuer A Matet now to fight promising Dana Coolwell Sat .
Yeah, wish Luke all the best moving forward. Injury sounded bad. Matet is training partners with Boyd and jumped straight in. Luckily he was fully ready to go.
Good to see Darchinyan recognized in the Aussie boxing Hall of Fame. Sometimes it is criminal how Vic can fly under the radar for many fans.
Agree with this. It's shameful the way he's been treated by the media here. His achievements as a professional boxer equal or surpass that of any other fighter we've had. He won more world titles than any of our fighters (until Jeffrey was given a 4th to equal him) & unified a division (which Jeffrey never did). He has three stoppage wins against fighters I consider to have been A-level opponents - KO11 Irene Pacheco for the IBF Flyweight title, KO9 Cristian Mijares to unify the Jr Bantamweight division & KO 11 Jorge Arce to retain the Undisputed championship. None of our modern era fighters have kayoed three A-level blokes. He also made more appearances on premium US television networks than any of our fighters. They're not running a charity over there. They only put you on if you're pretty damn good. I bought a copy of Grantlee Kieza's new book on the weekend, Great Australian Boxing Stories, & was shocked to find that it doesn't contain a section on Vic. Virtually every other fighter of any note in Australian boxing gets their own write up in the book, but not Vic. My appetite for reading the book rapidly diminished when I saw that. In fact, I wouldn't have bought a copy if I'd known how little coverage he was to receive. In fairness to the author, Vic did get a mention early on along with Vic Patrick, but seriously, if you don't think Vic's achievements are worthy of detailed consideration, forget it. I haven't read very far into the book such was the sour taste his lack of coverage left me with. Maybe he's covered in more detail later on but it doesn't look like it. I will correct the record if he is. I understand he wasn't born here, but neither were many of the other fighters who received detailed write-ups in the book. And they didn't achieve a fraction of what Vic did. If we're going to claim Kostya's achievements as our own, there's no reason not to be claiming Vic's.
There's a lot more I could say about Vic's career b/c it was as good or better than any fighter we've had in my time following the sport. Which is why I find it so surprising that Grantlee's book appears to say so little.
I am glad the blues won but LOL at the media praising the performance it was a dead rubber so a lot less pressure. Freddy is still a clown and needs to go.
Exactly. QLD gave 50% and still threatened anytime they had the ball. Freddy couldn't coach an Under 11's side.
Just read an interesting theory that Billy Slater threw the last game to ensure Freddy coaches next year. 4D chess William. Absolutely guaranteed another shield if he does.
