Alright, sorry, guess I'm just used to "boxing hipster" carrying more accusatory connotations in recent years (as in arbitrarily hyping up fighters just to be an elitist with greater emphasis on their obscurity than merit)

His talent is more than obvious, no wonder why he's the favourite.

Theoreatically Cruz should be able to win a world title without much problems. I hope he does it.

PS: Well, I just realized that at lightweiht all the belts are in haney's hands. Not a normal situation in lightweight, let's see. It's stacked btw. It will be fun to follow his career if he can fulfill the expectations.

Cubans make awful pros, crap most of them when they turn over. Don't bet on Cubans in the pros.

Burgos is shot to pieces. Should be a showcase pro debut for Cruz.

I fell asleep. Will try to watch a replay, but from what I've heard it was the expected cruise control. Good to see he got ten rounds under his belt tho.

Cruz had style radically geared towards amateurs so he needs the rounds in the pros, and I don't think he will ever switch completely. More likely he will be the feather fisted slickster/technician.

    Yep. I hate to agree.

The amateur style seems to be really hardcoded in him. I dont know if he will be able to get rid of it.

It's his first fight only, though. Lomachenko's first fight was even worse. Let's see how Cruz evolves, I wish he could make a full transition to a pro style and give us all nights of glory.

Biggest hypejob period. Seen several of his amateur matches, never been impressed in the least. His pro debut, the definition of lackluster. He's going nowhere in the pros. He's a featherfist, who'll be savaged by the first guy who knows how to fight a southpaw. He has nothing to keep them off of him. ****ing hipsters.

I think y'all are being too harsh on him for his first fight. I didn't think he looked very good, either -- he has to change his punching technique to be successful at world class level -- but it was fight No. 1.

Main thing is he needs to stay active, tho. Hopefully everyone realizes that he has a lot of improvements to make.

He's the most accomplished 1-0 fighter in the world right now!

But is he going to learn it up? We shall see. History would suggest he will not.

Beautiful basics. Far more watchable than Rigo. Like an orthodox, sharper and more active Lara. And Burgos is not an easy debut for any fighter.

Watched some highlights. The power is not there and he looks smallish (135 might be more of a merketing move with how stacked it is?)

That being said, he is definitely extremely entertaining to watch with his tendency to defend in the pocket without clinches or control game, and tight-on point head movement.

Feather fisted, yes, and I fear he might find his Villa like Rashidi Ellis, but in general a fantastic addition to watch in boxing.

He doesn't fight southpaw, does he?

Yeah, you're right. For what it's worth, I'd just woken up, Rojas, Rodriguez and Frank Martin all three were southpaws, who I watched on Showtime was in southpaw discussing mode and had a brainfart. Although as an amateur Cruz did have a tendency to switch hit and did so last night on a few occasions.
