there is a myth about some of these older fighters from the early noughties. Williams lost to Francis, he was terrified before most of his fights, he got dropped 3 times and stopped when he stepped up to European level for that title against a flabby limited Samil San. If it had not been for his arm popping out in a poor fight vs a heavy for the London crims Potter, and beating the corpse of Tyson, he'd be remembered for what he was, a poor British champion who pulled out of fights and was known as someone who was terrified in every prefight event he was in. We're meant to lionise him because he has a 72 year old daughter still in a private school, and is stupid enough to keep fighting.

Sure. But Williams was beyond shot. The discussion is about where a non-shot Williams would be today. What's interesting is how arguably worse boxers have made millions via the private telecast.

I can't stand you Sean Mohammed Begum but you're right here

Williams, Skelton, Sprott, Harrison, Rogan, Mcdermott era was mostly poor as ****, none were close to becoming a world champ, many boring fights

the era that came just after was much better
tyson fury, joshua, whyte, chisora, hughie fury, joyce

he carried on fighting 13 years after this lol

tbh prime chisora would have smashed any version of danny williams, he is just a better fighter. Look at the differences in their fights with vitali. chisora was competitive and williams got the biggest one sided beating ever.

Good fighter ruined by lack of training, and it would be the same in any era he fought in.

I remember watching that fight when it happened. Williams was completely and utterly shot in that fight.

He was punchy and couldn’t throw a punch, and he was overweight and disinterested. He laid back with his guard up and let Chisora unload on him.

It was a million miles away from a prime Williams which is what this thread is about. A prime Williams is very well capable of beating Chisora around his prime.

So? Does that mean he wasn’t shot to pieces back then? Poor argument. So, so poor

He would be around the same level as Wardley if he fought in prime years today. The division is tougher now than it was then. The talent at heavyweight in Britain alone would stop him from ever seeing a title fight.

How long have you watched boxing for ? I'm assuming not that long ?

Williams was shot to bits when he fought Chisora (at the time most people thought he'd hang them up after the fight) yet he continued to fight for well over a decade afterwards as well documented despite many many many calls for him to hang the gloves up.

I wouldn’t bother replying, it’s just another pointless thread started which is simply an excuse to mention that Joshua lost to Ruiz.

People confidently saying Joshua beats prime Williams, what prime fighter has AJ beat? He needed the refs help vs Parker, Beat 1 armed whyte (although I would say he’s a better boxer than whyte), unflattering win against Franklin, ran from an obese ruiz for 12 rounds. Every other fighter was old and past their best.

I feel bad for Williams he was around during a time heavyweight boxing was on its knees there wasn’t much money, not a big casual following etc. much lesser fighters have benefitted way more financially this last 10-15 years and got more opportunities than he had. I agree with previous poster that modern day PPV money would have motivated him a lot, the man had heart.

Williams was the current british champ at the time and had just beaten John Mcdermott a year earlier. Yeah he was shot, but nowhere near as shot as he is now lol. Plus that was a green, young Chisora.. not the best Chisora either.

I think prime Chisora is definitely better than prime Williams personally. People seem to be overrating Williams here. No way could Williams have consistently been competitive with world level fighters the way Chisora has.
