Yes but that fight showed that Norton could be KO'ed by a fighter weighing way under 200 pound limit.

Yes Norton was green but he could be vulnerable to punchers, and there was nothing specified in the 1st post about same day weigh ins.

So if were allowing big Light Heavyweights like Moorer, Spinks, Beterbiev, to rehydrate with their punching power they have a chance.

 

With respect DP, if the OP had asked if any version of Norton could be KO'd be a sub-200lber, I'd have responded differently.

As stated, I don't think any boxer weighing 175lbs or under would beat a prime Norton, if you feel differently then I'd happily read your counter arguments.

I wouldn't make any fighter in history weighing in at 175lbs the favourite over Norton on his best night, even with a day before weigh in.

Norton took huge volumes of power punchers from Ali and Holmes. Whilst neither were msssive punchers, both hit harder than they are often given credit for, Ali inparticular stopped some exceptional HWs and I doubt any LHW in history could stand up to Norton's pressure and land as many punches on Norton as they both did.

If you think there's a fighter weighing 175lbs the day before the fight, who you would favor to achieve what Ali and Holmes couldn't in 4-fights and 54-rounds between them, then again, I'd welcome your supporting arguments.

I wouldn't favor any light heavyweight over Norton but maybe a prime Ezzard Charles could get a decision.

 

Norton has the upper hand here.

However there are some cat swho MAYBE could pull an upset vs Norton.

Archie Moore, Hopkins, Spinks could do it... maybe Conn or Moorer also.

 

For humor value, I'm going to go with Mike Spinks, just to create the world's most awkward fight. Norton with his cross guard, dragging his foot like it doesn't work, Spinks moving all herky jerky...

 

I’d like to see Ken Norton vs Michael Moorer. Not sure I can favor Moorer but it might be interesting with his power and southpaw style

Well that's what i'm saying though mate about the weigh ins nothing was specified in the 1st post about it. It was just "send in your Light Heavyweight's to beat Norton" there was no mention of weigh ins.

So as i said if were talking about certain Light Heavyweight's being able to rehydrate, then that becomes a different matter especially with some of the bigger Light Heavyweights who carry a big punch.

We know Norton can be KO'ed by a fighter weighing under 190 pounds, so i wouldn't say it's out of the realms some of the bigger Light Heavyweights with a big punch couldn't pose a serious threat.

Norton's durability is fine up until a certain point, we know fighters with a rating of like 6/10 in power department don't trouble him. But fighters with power in range of 8/10 and above he can be found wanting.

Again though this is all comes to down to if were allowing same day weigh ins or not, that makes quite a big difference in these mythical match up fights.

Out of interest, which fighter weighing 175lbs or less the day before the fight, would you make favourite over the Norton from the Ali fights?

 

That version of Saad would be a threat to most fighters! What do you think about the marauding monster Dwight Braxton on the night he dethroned Saad? Too short may be a problem, but his ability to take away his opponents jab while landing hard punches over the top of their lowered hand was excellent. Add in excellent head movement, sheer physicality and heavy hands and it could spell trouble for Kenny.

 

You know Rodrigo, Dwight Muhammad Qwai would have been a threat to anybody on that night, I saw that bout live on ABC's Wide World Of Sports, Matthew Saad Muhammad was waiting for the other shoe to drop when he faced Jerry The Bull Martin on Sept 27 1981 in round 11 the fight before Qwai, Saad looked listless until he stopped Martin. Jerry had beaten incarcerated James Scott on May 25 1980 by unanimous 10 round decision at Rahway State Prison, I saw that bout too, Martin dropped Scott twice in that bout.

 

I agree. Sad to say that you could actually see the decline of Saad leading up to the Qawi fight, but it is true. To me, he never looked the same after the 2nd fight with Lopez. Perhaps too many ring wars, coupled with his disappointment at finding his family and it not being what he had hoped, left him a shadow of his former self. I said in a previous post that I would have loved to have seen the Saad that beat Marvin Johnson in '77 take on Braxton in '81. That would have been a helluva fight.
