If you stood up to Tyson you could beat him!!!

I just said in another thread, some folks think peak Tyson was death, destroyer of worlds. He wasn’t.

I acknowledge the man’s greatness, he’s matured into a pretty wise and cool dude (I love his online show), and I utterly understand why the guy is beloved by people who are attracted to and emphasize boxing’s primal savagery, which I’m not and don’t. I never was a Tyson fan, my reaction to Tokyo was orgasmic glee and to me his reign was a dark time as far as heavyweight boxing. But to each his own and YMMV, absolutely.

 

I get it. Tyson's reign had it's ups and downs but it brought boxing back to the mainstream. Not that it ever left but it's popularity was huge as sales were up. Magazine sales were up. PPV buys were up.

No one can dispute that.

 

Completely agree. Tyson’s excellence and importance cannot be denied. His deal was just never my personal cup of tea.

 

I think boxing Tyson was better, I found his head movement overrated and he shared a lot of Pattersons' problems re: being square and hittable. I reckon prime for prime, Holmes gets him. Larry didn't look too bad in there before he got demolished. I think Evander and Lennox beat him regardless, but those guys are all timers. What's the "secret" to beating Tyson? Be an all time great fighter. I think it's all retrospect to say Holyfield and Douglas bullied the bully and therefore won. I think Douglas' double jab right hand was a little more the boss than any mental warfare.

 

If Tyson would have quoted Oppenheimer's Infamous Quote that was actually quoted out of the Hindu sacred text the Bhagavad Gita

“Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.”

Then Tyson would have been the most intimidating talker of all time considering he is already up there.

Met too. Oppenheimer or Barbie is a pretty easy choice for me considering...It kind of reminds me how when they released Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing the same day.
