I take it you did not watch the video. Or are you one of those TopRank fan boys who hate the fact that a black man( Al Haymon) runs boxing.
Yesterday we had a talk at the gym about that fight and some people actually rate Spence skills as high as Buds. I will be honest, I rate his skills more after that talk and watching his other highlights. Some people actully think that since Spence don't have stamina problems, Bud will not stop him and since this fight is on PBC, they will not give dicision to Crawford.
Yeah he's far from basic but I can see why some people think that as he doesn't fit the mould of what most people regard as a skilled boxer as many people just equate that too a Mayweather type fighter that moves well and has slick defence and that clearly isn't Spence. All the Mayweather comparisons early in his career actually were damaging, I too used to think why on earth are people saying he's the next Mayweather and thought he was basic because he fights nothing like Mayweather. But once you forget that comparison and actually see what he does well, it's clear he's a very skilled fighter but he's far more a Chavez or Duran type pressure fighter who's very physical and clever at applying pressure and breaking down fighters, he's not some slick defensive wizard.
But here's the thing. And I'm just being objective. Spence has never fought anyone with Crawford's movement, besides Porter (that was the most determined POrter I had ever seen but styles make fights). Still, Crawford has never fought anyone who possesses the combination of chin, jab, elite fundamentals, pressure, and power. There is a disparity between who the two have defeated when they defeated them and Spence does have the edge with age. I think this fight is going to dispel some misconceptions that the boxing community has about Crawford and Spence. I watched the Madianna vs Floyd 1 fight and it had me thinking about the Crawford and Spence fight. Crawford doesn't scratch the floor when it comes to FLoyd's IQ, athleticism, timing, defense or counterpunching and Madianna gave him hell even though Madianna is nowhere near as good as Spence is. You have a lot of people who think Crawford is just going to outbox Spence and make it look easy while some people think Spence is going to just walk Crawford down. This may very well be a dram or controversial decision.
That's fair. It's like Marvin Hagler and Leonard. Leonard is the more twitchy athletic fighter, while Hagler is all grit and fundamentals
That's what I said. People still think it's 50/50 fight, I just see Bud stopping him late. My trainer called it a draw and rematch for even bigger money.
Look at every fighter Crawford has fought who possesses a combination of size and skill (Postol and Benavidez) Both fights went 12 with Benavidez getting caught for being too defensively irresponsible. Spence has a much higher chance of stopping Crawford due to his volume, pressure, ability to fight don't he inside, and punching power (it has been stated that Spence punches harder than Crawford). Crawford's best chance would be to box don't he outside but you can't play boxing with Spence. What we learned from the Mikey and Danny Garcia fights is that Spence is an underrated outboxer.
I don't see how reach advantage is relevant when Spence is taller by two inches. When it comes to punching power both Porter and spent admitted that spent hits harder.
Because he is. When you compare him to the elites, he is super basic. Crawford proved it and he's only elite in terms of the eye test, not resume. He's very slow, lacks balance, only sticks to the jab never really mixing it up, doesn't have any special tactics and has no plan B because he's used to dominating weaker guys who can't get past his jab.
I remember watching him beat Chris Algeri live and noticed how much hype Spence was getting. They were really pouring it on. It was absurd to see how big of a deal the Spence hype machine made out of beating somebody as utterly mediocre as Algieri. That's when I started to key in on this could be a hype bubble ready to burst. Still remember you could get -112 odds on Crawford to beat Spence. Thought that those odds were criminal.
