Is Naoya Inoue The GOAT If He Becomes Undisputed At 122 And 126?

That's a good way of describing it. On paper it doesn't seem that bad. Boxing has had multiple titles before, the problem starts when you realize just how comically corrupt these governing bodies are.

 

It's time to revisit this thread again, because becoming undisputed at 126 is a real possibility now.

It's easy to become desensitize to his accomplishments when he makes it look so easy.

 

No because other atg's have better wins than him vs other atg's and Inoue only has 1 against an atg and he won't fight another atg opponent for the foreseeable future

 

The issue is Inoue doesn't have the opposition to become the GOAT.

He def will go down as an ATG, and his ranking even higher if he ends up undefeated like PBF. Unfortunately he won't have a goat resume like Canelo, Pacquiao, Cotto, Mosley, Maidana, Corrales, Hernandez, Dela Hoya, the list goes on and on.

 

If Inoue goes up to 135 and beats Teo, Loma, Shakur, Haney, he's the goat.

 

Navarrete vs Inoue would be the closest to watching a young Pacquiao vs Inoue, fun matchup.

 

I forgot about Navaratte lol, I think Inoue would destroy him though.

 

Nowadays I'd favor Inoue vs Navarrete, but I'd actually give Luis Alberto Lopez better odds than I had stated. The guy can crack, and his boxing is getting better. Maybe like 85-15 Inoue.

 

I believe I look at this differently than most. The jumping around to different weight classes is one of the unfortunate unintended consequences of having so many weight classes and so many alphabet organizations. If there are no vacant titles there would be 44 "world champions" from 105 to 147 pounds. That means more than one champion per pound. It is truly absurd. Winning titles is not that big a deal.

I believe the best achievement is not winning the titles, it's defending them over and over again. Belts were much harder to win a few decades ago and even more difficult to win a few decades before that. I believe Inoue is not great because he's won all the belts. He's great because he's a great fighter.

 

I swear, he used to be better. His last fight out he looked terrible, I agree. He just isn't getting in shape anymore and that has costed him his explosiveness.

I don't think it's defending them, either. It really is down to who you beat, how dominantly, how often you lost, how you lost, who you lost to and how much bigger your opponents were. Defenses and titles can be gamed far too easily.

 

It’s almost impossible to become the goat in the modern era due to lack of credible elite opposition.

Plus Inoue falls short by the eye test.

but say he unified 122, beats Loma at 126 then goes to 130 and picks up a couple of belts, while looking good and dominant, that would be some incredible run
