I didn't realize that this is very common, but there are closed door weigh ins and then there are the ceremonial weigh ins for the fans/broadcasting. But why? Seems like a waste of time.

I don't know, but this seems to be a very new thing. I don't like it. The weigh-in should be the weigh-in. Behind closed doors weigh-ins are dumb and inconsistent with history. I don't know when this started becoming a thing or who thought this would be a good idea, but it isn't.

Simple, it builds hype for the event. Fans get to see the face off, and all of the sports channel can show them mean mugging each other a day before the fight to create interest.

Edit: Perhaps I misunderstood the question, no idea why they do weigh ins behind closed doors, easier for corruption?

I had the same thought today. There should only be one weigh-in unless they are worried about situations like the one woman who had to get naked on the scale a few years ago and her towel dropped. :beautiful::beautiful:

They took a page out of the UFC's book. They used to do live weigh ins.

It's a fashion that comes from the UFC. This gives boxers more time to rehydrate.

It's annoying because both will have had what 4 maybe 5 hours to rehydrate. since the real weigh in. I want to see what they look like at the moment they hit the scale.

Is this for all fights or just certain fights?

When was the last "live" weigh in?

Yeah that's the whole point of it. To see how easily they made weight. This behind closed doors / ceremonial weigh in is blasphemy!

It's seriously annoying. Back in the day there was a good chance someone like Spence who now is having trouble making the weight would have to go full nude behind a towel and there is always that slim but very hopeful chance the towel slips...but them days are gone it seems.

Who decided this is how weigh-ins are gonna be done for now on? This makes weigh-ins seem far more shady than they ever were. We're supposed to be able to see what happens at the wiegh-in. If they had to re-weigh, strip, etc. Now we don't get to see it anymore. WTF? Who made this decision, when did this happen and how did this get decided?

So let me get this straight. Now with this "ceremonial" weigh-in, they're gonna step on the scales and they're gonna pretend to check the weight on the scale but then just go with what they already weighed hours ago? This is seriously corrupt.

I think it's for the big PPV fights but I could be wrong.
