Bud's Check Jab

His jab was so precise, he basically eliminated Spence's jab. He stripped Spence of his best weapon.

 

It was piston like and very strong. As opposed to lazy and slow pushing arm punch. Someone mentioned atg jab, it certainly is a fine tuned weapon in buds arsenal! Lennox used to say the jab is the most important punch in boxing. Larry Holmes had a great jab, hasim Rahman trained for the Kali Meehan fight to "throw the jab at any range, whether short distance or long."

Imo it is the first punch needed for muscle memory in the boxers requirements.

On a side note, I’m only 33, but back in my day we would call the “check-jab”, a jab.

 

I hate to be hyperbolic but that’s one of the best performances I’ve ever seen in a boxing ring considering the stakes.

 

What’s the difference between a check jab and a power jab?

Back in my day we learned, the jab is a defensive punch, you keep your lead hand glued to your ear with your chin tucked. Nothing can land except for smack top of your head, which isn't a pressure point lol. Also the quickest distance to a point is a straight line! And then when you coil it back, bring it back to your face and elbow back to protecting the body. I had a nice jab for a gym fighter. I found myself LOST the muscle memory when I trained as an adult again, sorry to see it leave lol. But yeah, the jab is what sets up the killer punch, we all know that. It's like Oscar de la Hoya said one time "today was the day of jabs." Unlike against Floyd Mayweather, much more like bud over Errol.

Frick I'm going on 40 lol. We had some nice boxers and trainers at the Orioles boxing club. In particular junior moare, light heavyweight champion of Canada. It must have been before the 2000s though.

I call a jab a jab, but my favorite use of it is as a disruptor. I’ve been sparring my nephew lately as he’s taken a bit of interest in boxing, mainly as a workout, but it makes me smile every time he rushes in hands loaded and a simple jab completely throws him off and makes him reset.

 

Check jab doesn’t even make sense. The “check” hook is so-called, because it’s a pivot off hook. The motion is like the check sign, or nike sign for imagery.

Also this is the first time I’ve heard the term.
