Yeah, at the time of the accident I remember certain people were saying it was going to be hard to come back from, likely meaning that they knew there was brain damage. This kind of damage can impact coordination of all kinds. There's a guitarist called Malmsteen who had brain damage/nerve damage from a car crash and didn't come back quite the same even if he did continue to play at a high level. The body isn't magic. It absolutely makes sense the handlers that exploit 'the brand' would wish to conceal the extent of the problem and still make as much money as they can from perceived 'massive fights'. It's simply how these management types think. On a smaller scale it was the same with Haye and Bellew where Haye knew his body was done but he wanted to make out like he was super dangerous to sell that last 'massive fight'. It worked. But it was clear after those fights that Haye was not what he was. That's why nobody gives Bellew much credit for them when on paper he beat Haye twice at HW, and better than Wlad.
because he lives casually and not like a Spartan. He drinks alcohol and blows up in weight in between fights.
The doctors have blood on their hands for allowing a disabled boxer to fight. He passed the pre fight medicals. Sign the contract at that point it's all green lights. I think Spence should retire though.
Like I said, he was SHREDDED at 156. Hes a big guy who carries muscle mass. He'll be better off at 154 regardless of whether he is successful
He won't ever be better. He's damaged and it will only get worse. In 10 years from now when he can barely form a sentence we'll all see how messed up he really was. Bud's victory over him won't age well.
Have you ever been around someone that's suffered a traumatic brain injury? It's a progressive decline, we'll see how he's functioning a year or two down the road, then how he's functioning in another 5 to 10 years. And I'm not even talking about as a boxer I'm referring to doing daily activities unassisted. He's not in good health at all, I can only imagine how bad his slurring and motor skills will be by the time that he's 40.
No I've never been around anyone with a traumatic brain injury for a long period of time. Whenever I've seen the guy act strange and slurring his words I've put it down to being drunk, high or nervous. In the off chance he does have a brain injury, one would hope his family, team, management and personal doctors guide him in the right direction.
Ok, now you got me thinking. I did find it very odd that the doctor checked Spence out so early in the fight, with very little damage done to that point. I hadn't thought of that before. Very good angle of perspective. But, do you think if they knew Spence was that compromised that the doctor would have checked him more often, and his corner would let the beating go on for 7 more rounds? I would think that if they were that concerned going in to have a doctor check the first time he gets tagged good, they would be ready to stop it when they realized Spence had nothing for Crawford.
They wanted to prolong the beatdown to create a "narrative" that Crawford is head and shoulders above else and had just defeated goliath.
Depends on what your definition of elite is. Mine is you're in the top pack of fighters for that weight class for that particular period which Garcia was. My original point was, one has to be in peak physical condition (including mentally) to beat a fighter like Garcia, you saw what Garcia did to Khan, one mistake and it's over. With that in mind, either Spence is a super duper cyborg or the injuries he incurred in the accident couldn't have been as bad what some of you are making out, considering he only fought 12 months after the accident.
That would be a lot of elite fighters then. Not my definition for sure. There are very few elite fighters in boxing.
Every time someone mentions Spence "and his accident", I just imagine him pooping his pants, at like a press conference or something, and for some reason that is the funniest thing in the world to me. Just picturing his very uncomfortable facial expression attempting to play it cool with his jock full of cack.
