Bugnerphobia!!! A common occurrence back then, when the formidable Joe was sniffing around!!!

I've seen people s lists with George in the top five, he's not that high for me, but I've got him around 7-8

That's why he could be overrated...and underrated by one's who don't have him top 10. He deserves his place- but that isn't top 5.

    He's in my Top-5.

But, then again, a heroic-looking, Greek-style bronze sculpture of Foreman takes pride of place in my garden.

Not really. But I envision one being there... ...one day.

    :D

I reckon the statue will be the old version's head on the younger body.

You guys got me wondering what is out there for George as far as statues go. I found this figurine - excuse me, statuette of George.

They kept it real though - old George’s head on old George’s body.

I was about to order one express delivery before realising that they’re out of stock. Dayyum! Very popular apparently

@My dinner with Conteh , just quietly, you didn’t happen to scoop up the last one per chance?

there are other things I hold against Foreman, such as only fighting Ali and Lyle once, and never fighting Bonavena, which I think should have been mandatory to be held in any regard near the realm of Ali and Frazier

Foreman was scared of losing, if Frazier was more prime/FOTC form and had beat him they more than likely would not have had a second fight, if someone dominated Foreman the way he did Frazier they for sure would not have had a second fight

he is definitely top 10 material, more so than Holmes and Lewis

I don't think hes overrated no the win over Frazier is a top 10 Heavyweight win of all time in the manner it was accomplished.

And coming back at age 45 to win the Lineal Heavyweight championship, is the best achievement ever in Heavyweight history by a Heavyweight over the age of 40.

He makes the top 10 based on all of the above.

Conveniently ignoring that he lost to Jimmy Young in his physical prime and that Ali was thought to be past it in Zaire.

Hardly George's fault. He chased the Ali rematch, as soon as he announced his comeback in late 75, and right through 76...in late 1976, the WBC even ordered that he had to fight George 5 months as he was mandatory contender. Don King had announced that the fight would happen in Damascus, with Ali getting $10m, Foreman £6m...Ali then announced his retirement, with the goal of coming back within a year to win the crown for the 3rd time. King signed Foreman to fight Young, Ali 'came back' and announced he was fighting Evangelista.....etc.

The Lyle rematch was never really mooted as Ron was busy being outclassed again by 'Jackfruit' Jimmy Young.

Also, George is easily in the ' realm ' of Frazier and is generally rated ahead of Joe, for the most part, I'd say.

Sounds perfect for a comebacking Foreman. I guess Tony Fulilangi and Rocky Sekorski were more worthy.
