We are already seeing a lot of drained, damaged, Spence comments. If he ends up with more losses or retires and is f'd up in a few years this win will age badly like Pac vs De la Hoya. Beforehand a big fight but afterwards downplayed a lot. Or like Ali vs Holmes or Benn vs Gman.
Sucks for Crawford though since its his big win, he did it in great style and I feel he would have done it in 2018 as well.

He gets full credit for the win because Spence was still fighting at a high level. I thought was going to beat him, and we know how that went.

Spence had one fight in 2 1/2 years when he faced Bud I don't think that qualifies at high level. That being said, Bud should get full credit. No excused once you step into that ring.

People take breaks and still come back Sharp, he was an elite fighter and had a great performance against Ugas, so you'd have to expect in hindsight that he'll perform at a high level going in which everybody had thought would happen.

I think you raise a good point and include notable examples. I feel if Spence looks shocking at his next outing, the excuse makers will also use that. But you have to factor in that Spence took an absolute beating from Crawford. The ones where you’re not surprised if they’re never the same fighter after.
With that said, the win shouldn’t age badly for 2 reasons:
1 - Spence just stopped Ugas, who had a belt and was a legit threat.
2 - well respected boxing people felt Spence would win.

Bud is simply better than Spence, Spence still beats every other WW in the world, aside from possibly Boots, but even that’s very debatable.

Bud beat a dominant, unified champion in style and became undisputed at 147. Nothing can take away from the greatness of this achievement.

Its a great win, now if Spence falls off a cliff people may try to take the shine off the win, kind of like when Curry lost to Honeyghan.

It all depends what Spence does after this first career defeat to Crawford, however at this current time Crawford just battered his long term rival who just happened to be an unbeaten and unified champion to go Undisputed in a second division. Haters simply gonna hate !

Ugas was like 5 years ago.

And they picked Spence to win before they saw his corpse walking to the ring.

It was a bad win to big in with considering the circumstances. I do think Crawford beats a prime Spence.

However, the Spence we saw the other day was inactive and drained. He didn’t stand a chance.

Spence has had one fight in 2.5 years, which was over a year ago against an old pillowfisted Cuban who almost knocked him out. Have yet to hear an argument that he wasn’t inactive (because he was)

Spence is a guy who is known to walk around 170-80 so constantly cutting that weight eventually is going to have an effect. If you add in the inactivity I mentioned, it’s going worsen that effect and we saw that in the ring. A drained Spence who looked frankly sluggish and vulnerable.

Spence has already signalled moving up to 154 - hence it’s pretty clear 147 has been a struggle for him. He’s called Crawford out at 154 despite their no being belts on the line because he knows at least he’ll have more of a chance not being drained to ****

This is not to mention the car crash, of which the effects are largely unknown. However, what was clear that since he has had that extra spaced out look where it’s almost like he’s looking through you or something, really weird

This isn’t eXcusEs, no, the stuff I’ve mentioned is objective

People are acting incredibly stupid about this. Well, they're not really acting. They're just choosing to insist Spence was prime and in the best shape of his life and that the accident had zero effect on him.

Yeah - I really don’t get why people ignore the context. No matter how much valid context you give it’s not even considered a possibility…strange…

    It's very simple:
    • Race fans
    • American fans
    • Bud fans
    • Mentally-challenged individuals
The guys that are saying Spence was prime and not drained are the same guys that said Cotto was shot/drained against Pac and that Floyd fought the best undefeated version of Cotto.

Cotto was a CW of 145 pounds. There's a difference.
