Those who are so high of Bud's after his win against Spence are Boxing fanatics as if he defeated very special high caliber fighter in Spence. Spence is not something special. His boxing career is just average as he has NOT been into an elite competition. He has not defeated an elite fighter in his entire boxing career (except Mickey but Mickey was elite only at 135 and also debatable). Basically Spence inclusion into a pound for pound is highly questionable considering his average competation and resume. It has been actually the hype of the American media and American countrymen boxing experts that Spence is the real deal.. A little above average fighter can look great by fighting average and below average fighters as much like, the likes of Wilder and Hamed to name a few; but when they competed into an elite level they looked average. Wake up folks..
Wait, who did Crawford beat that was elite? Crawford has had one of the more questionable resumes up until this point.
You can only really beat the best that is out there though. Brook, Khan, Porter, Benavidez, etc are very good fighters. Horn was decent enough at the time, undefeated and had just beaten Pacquiao. Perhaps you are fair in saying that there is nobody truly elite there but they were the best available fights. He's never ducked anyone as far as I know. The thing with Crawford is that he never really looks like he is in any trouble either.
Spence fought the better fighters at 147 imo, and beat 2 common opponents when they were fresher fighters as well. I hate when people try to **** on Spences resume like he beat nobody. Who did Crawford really beat that is better than who Spence beat at 147 lbs? Nobody.
Errol has used great boxing fundamentals for so long he never needed a plan B. Not sure if there is a plan B that would have been successful but you are right. He didn't really try anything different
100% agree that a plan b might not have been successful but Plan A was clearly not working. There wasn’t even an attempt at changing the gameplan.
My take away is that Crawford has more tools as suspected by most before the fight. He was always the more complete fighter and was a deserving favourite going into the fight albeit only slightly. I suspect he would beat a fresher version of Spence regardless, and the talk of the accidents Spence has had should not detract from what Crawford was able to do in the ring that night. Even the greatest of fighters rarely put in a A+ performance in the ring, the perfect storm on the night of the fight just doesn’t quite come together. Bud was able to put it together when it mattered the most, the biggest fight of his life. The only thing that leaves a sour taste in my mouth is that I know, and most of us should tell it like it is …. Spence is compromised. We finally get a massive, important fight in the sport and only one of the fighters was primed for it. What could have been if Spence took care of himself, could have had an ATG fight. Unfortunate but not Bud’s fault, you can only beat whats infront of you and he did it masterfully.
Great point. It's too bad for us fans that both men weren't at their absolute best. Let's hope the rematch provides us with a better situation.
As soon as Spence cleared the tunnel on his walkout I thought he looked like he didn't sleep at all the night before. He looked tired. Bud is a special fighter and was brilliant in throwing between Spence's shots and his defense was on point. Crawford was swimming without getting wet and Spence just didn't have an answer. Spence took the loss with class and is still a force that not many at Welter or Super Welter can handle. He will be champion again. What Spence did to Ugas he can still do to most.
Not sure how much the car accidents and the beating he took from Crawford have aged him but I'm looking forward to see how Spence performs at 154.
he doesnt have good tech on the punches he throws. Crawford saw him throwing an overhand left which he telegraph by pulling back and beat him with an upper.
