Had the pleasure of visiting a number of champs in Puerto Rico over the last couple of weeks. Including Felix Trinidad, Alfredo Escalera, Angel Espada, Wilfredo Vazquez Sr., Juan LaPorte, Jose De Jesus, John John Molina. As always, just great to see Tito, a man who’s in a great mood all the time and is so unbelievably kind and friendly. This is a man at peace and very happy. Also, it was my first time meeting Molina in person and he’s such a nice guy too. They really all were class acts. Visited Vazquez Sr at his home, he’s very nice. Showed me his belts, spoke about how he should be in Canastota and he realizes it’s a political game sadly. This is great, Chris. So happy that Tito seems such a good dude as he was always a favourite of mine. Also fantastic to see Alfredo Escalera looking well - his two fights with Alexis Arguello, despite him losing both, remain among my favourite fights ever and made me as much a fan of El Salsero as El Flaco Explosivo. Angel Espada is a fighter I only relatively recently built an appreciation for - he showed tremendous heart against Pipino Cuevas in those three title fights. I also think there was a discussion about Juan LaPorte only the other day in a thread here and everyone was agreeing that he had one of the best chins ever. Saludos to all these Puerto Rican greats!
I say without exaggerating that Tito is the nicest superstar I’ve ever met and quite simply the most pleasant person I’ve encountered in this sport. Truly one of the nicest and happiest people I ever met.
Love seeing this! Thank you for sharing such an amazing experience! So glad to see that Tito is happy and healthy!
Juan looks like he could go 12 right now! And Espada, who was really a cutie, looks like he’d just as soon hit you as look at you, haha. P.S. Nice touch with the Blue Horizon shirt. I was talking to a guy today at a conference who moved to Philly from Trinidad back in the day and he talked about going to the Blue, said it seemed like they had a fight every night.
Macho Camacho was CRAZY NICE... and among non boxers, Rene Farrait, former member of boy band Menudo was CRAZY NICE as well. but I havent met Tito so I cant say about him lol
