Seriously...like WTF is this BS? Boxing is the most crooked and broken sport to ever exist. No doubt Jermall will fight a soft touch too so even if by some miracle he does fight in 2023 it will be 3 full years before he defends his title.

I get the theory of it, but I hate that the guy who sits on his ass gets rewarded while the one who takes on a challenge gets stripped.

Boxing needs to reexamine the consequences of these rules.

Well, Jermall is only the WBC Champ, Jermell is Undisputed. The WBC is giving Jermall a ridiculous amount of leeway but the WBO is not so lenient.

I'm surprised that they came to such an agreement. It's very unusual but it's also an unusual situation. I would've expected the WBO to give Jermell the ability to fight Canelo and then have time after that to come to terms with Tim without having to vacate the title.

It doesn't really make sense for him to hold the Title for the Canelo match if he has no ability to retain it. I mean, he is technically Undisputed but now he won't be after the Canelo match. I get that he wants to come into the ring as Undisputed, but this is sort of a bizarre agreement. That said, to strip him now would harm the promotion.

I think honestly they should have kept it silent instead of leaking it out that way, because now we know he's stripped so is this really Undisputed vs Undisputed?

So how long should Tim be forced to wait around whilst Charlo picks and chooses who and when he fights?

Do not forget, Tim is the mandatory. If Charlo decides to step up and complete for other belts then he absolutely should give up the belts that he has. Tim has had to take two fights against dangerous opponents just to stay active whilst Charlo has dicked him around.

Where does it end? Charlo gets his ass handed to him by Canelo and then chooses to fight Crawford for example...should Tim just wait around for that too? It's a trash way to treat an undefeated mandatory who has done every single thing asked of him.

F*** both Charlos, f*** Fury and f*** everyone else who holds the sport to ransom and denies the next generation their opportunity.

Lol at the Charlo fans saying he isn’t ducking Tszyu he is taking the bigger pay day. It’s almost as bad as Fury ducking Usyk for a bigger pay day with Francis.

Well Charlo beat the WBO Champ. But he hasn't defended the title since, so the WBO is well within their rights to strip him by now but they have discretion to make the best decision possible. Yes Tim fought 2 good opponents, one of them Jermell fought twice. I just think as the Champ who beat the legit WBO title holder, he should be given some leeway given that he's daring to be great by taking on Canelo. It's not like he's defending his title against someone else just to duck Tim. He's actually fighting in another division against another Undisputed Champion. That I think warrants a degree of respect from the WBO. I mean, after all, Canelo is the WBO SMW Champ. And his 2 previous fights were against the WBO LMW Champ. It's an immense challenge so I think an exception could be made.

They could recognize that he's taking a very difficult fight and inform him that after Canelo he has to defend against Tim next or be stripped. I just don't like the WBO announcing that he's allowed to hold the belt against Canelo only to be stripped right after. That makes it seem like he's not really Undisputed anymore, but he actually is. Stripping him now would be worse, but this was unnecessary. There's a chance he could agree to fight Tim after, and I think he should have been that option.

It's not like Jermell is just sitting on his ass. He was out with an injury then the Canelo fight was offerred. He's taking on the most difficult fight he could possibly fight. A better solution would be to allow him to remain Champ but let him know that he has to agree to terms with Tim before the end of the year or something. Just to give him the option to defend against Tim. For Tim to just be handed the title because Jermell is taking on an even bigger challenge in Canelo seems wrong.

We'll have to agree to disagree.

You simply can't have good contenders sitting around waiting whilst belts are tied up. Charlo had two options:

    1) Fight Canelo
    2) Fight Tszyu

I can fully understand why he took option 1. But in taking option 1 for more money and the opportunity to become undisputed at 168, the trade off should be that he gives up his belts at 154. This is just a guy having his cake and eating it too.

Technically you're right, but it wasn't clear that he would be stripped by the WBO if he fought Canelo. The WBO was probably caught by surprise that he decided to fight Canelo given that they were likely under the impression that he was out with an injury. Failure of communication is likely the reason why this decision was made.
